God, why are people so thick?
I keep confusing people and they all think I contradict myself. I bet if I were to b***h about bad drivers and then I mention lot of people in my area are good drivers, someone gets confused by those two statements and wonder which one is it when really it's obvious that there are lot of good drivers in my area but there are some bad ones too because there are bad drivers everywhere. Why can't people figure this out? Why isn't it so obvious to them so they have to assume it's a contradiction? Why are people too thick to realize this? Even when I explain myself (which I give up after trying once) they get even more confused when they should be thinking "Oh I misunderstood then" and move on but instead they think "No she said this and now she is saying that, oh she is lying and covering herself."
Another time I said years ago in a thread that I hate cold weather and then I said I hate hot weather and someone told me to make up my mind. Luckily the forum admin was smart enough to know that I like it in between so he answered it for me. Geez what is the matter with people?
I wonder if it's some communication barrier I am having and if it had to do with thinking differently than others so I confuse people?
I used to confuse my shrink all the time and for years I thought he was an idiot because to me what I was saying was simple to get and follow. But I was forced to keep seeing him because I was in high school and parents made me so I couldn't fire him. But then he got smart and figured out how I thought and didn't get so confused anymore.

LeagueGirl, The first thing I thought when I read your post was, well there's one positive aspect here, people are actually listening to what you are saying! Viewed over longer periods of time everybody contradicts themselves to some extent, so if people remember what you said about, say, private education a year ago then they had to have paid attention then, if they point out that you're saying something different now. That's apart from the fact that you are allowed to change your mind, although I know that's not what you're talking about.
Like you I reckon there's a bit more to it though. My pal complains about the big city he used to live in and which he hated living in, but now he lives somewhere less urban he complains that there are no decent shops here. It sounds like a trivial example but there are a lot more like that.
There is also a thread by Kiseki (currently ca. page 3) on "Contradictions in the Aspie personality", and I can't help feeling that there is some truth to the observation that the sort of contradictions everyone has can be more pronounced in some Aspies, and those contradictions would surely be reflected in what they say.
I would be tempted no not explain yourself too much to your colleagues. Unless it is vital to the work you do you do not have to justify your views. Every view you do express has a context and most things make sense at the time and in context.

Recently on a game forum someone was posting asking if something was against the rules and pretty much everyone but me could not understand their question at all and was completely misunderstanding their scenario and getting it wrong. It was so annoying. Everyone said it was against the rules because of the misunderstanding but I could see that with a literal interpretation of the rules it was allowed.
I find myself posting on certain forums a lot "you just don't get it". I don't think I ever had to post that comment here.
Seems to me like paradoxical views are what gives a person their distinct personality. Everyone is a paradox, if you dig deep enough.
This is one of those "truths" that I believe most people are completely unwilling to admit, and are severely offended when it is pointed out to them.
Also, some folks seem to think less of you if you constantly grow and learn and change your mind about things. They know too many other humans to be comfortable keeping track of someone who is always changing. A steadfast, unwaveringly mindless dedication to a belief or opinion is seen as a source of stability, a person that can be relied upon to be the same. A person who learns or grows or changes is flaky and unreliable.

At LG. about what hapenned to her on this forum years ago.
LOL I love it when people assume when I make a post here, I must be talking about something that happened here. No it was something recent that happened on another forum and the weather thing happened on another forum too in 2005 or 2004 when I was 19.
The same issue keeps repeating itself because people will keep saying "which is it" or say they see contradictions or tell me I am not making any sense. This was the most recent one it happened and I wonder why are people too tick to even realize things like things can be both or someone can't make up their mind perhaps, someone has mixed feelings, someone has changed their views.

Oh the timing of reading this is just too perfect. I just got finished explaining why I don't get involved with political discussions very often. Because the far right always tells me I'm an extreme left-winger, but the far left is always accusing me of being an extreme conservative.
Stupid people!
I'm neither one! I do have some views that are extreme in BOTH directions, but mostly I'm just a monkey in the middle!

I'm not God, but I'll answer with my guess. I've heard it said we eat too much corn product.
Too much corn starch maybe?

I sometimes swear the whole world is black and white, not aspies, everyone. Why can't a book be good and be awful at the same time? Why can't someone like cold weather and hot weather? Why can't someone dislike cold and dislike hot? Why can't there be both bad bicyclists and lot of good ones? Why can't you not mind driving but then hate it at times? Why can't you want to quit smoking and also not want to quit? Why can't you hate bad smokers and not mind the good ones?
Examples here about how stupid people are. They seem to think there can only be one, not both or else you are lying or trolling or whatever they are thinking.
I think if they are listening to what I am saying, they wouldn't be confused then or attack me or go looking for an argument or getting all offended. They be seeing what I am seeing and interpret the post the same way I had it written. If they did truly read it all and still didn't understand it, then they have poor reading skills. Either that or I am poor at communicating. I also have to remember that people read into what others say so that could be the case with me too and it has to do with different brain wiring. So if I am saying what I mean, others will read it and interpret it differently. Then they get confused because they just don't realize they misunderstood me then and just keep assuming what I said they thought I meant. It's very frustrating. Of course my husband doesn't take what I say seriously because to him I say things I don't mean. So if I make a comment and it means something else, he doesn't take it seriously because he knows I "didn't mean it." So if anyone accuses me of not saying what I mean, I just figure they are reading into what I am saying so therefore they think I am not saying what I mean. I am sure lot of NTs think aspies don't say what they mean meaning they don't mean what they say what it means in NT language. Once I realized that, I stopped getting frustrated about it.
If someone does change their mind, I don't see it as a contradiction.

I have no clue about the answer to this question, but me communicating the simplest thoughts to people and having myself actually unmisinterpreted by them can be like ripping each of my teeth out, one by one, with itty-bitty tongs, then superglueing them onto my eyelids, then ripping them off my eyelids too.
