As far back as I can remember, I have always felt as if I was born in the wrong body. Yeah, I had issues with gender idenity but I wonder if had more do to with everyone expecting me to conform to the sterotype that girls are supposed to wear dresses and play with dolls.
But my bigger problem was feeling as if I was born the wrong species.

I felt like I was supposed to have been a cat. I always had a subconcious attraction to jaguars becuase of this reoccuring dream I had EVERY night until I was about six or seven. I also remember expressing that I wanted to be a snake...speficaly so I could bite people. I don't know why it never occured to me at the momment that cats can bite too.

My parents were no help and never expressed any sympathy or reassurance. My mother just would yell at me that God made me a person and I had to accept that. I found the furry community disaponting. The fact my parents are so against it becuase they refuse to actualy look into it and just want to believe the media sterotypes. When I tell them that the majority of furries who are actualy into "yiffing" only make up like 2% of the community, they then tell me "but that isn't normal!"

But then why am I surprised? I wanted to dress punk and dye my hair pink when I was a teenager, but they said no to that as well. And since when have I been "normal"? Wearing shorts in the dead of winter becuase any sort of sensation on my knee joints is so painful isn't really most people's idea of "normal". I suspect that not being able to leave the house without the company of a live bearded dragon isn't most people's idea either.

It also seems that the said 2% who do "yiff" are only in it for that and have a beastality fetish. Eww! I don't even like the idea of having sex with other people. Having it with an animal, that let alone can't give its consent, just seems so dirty. I've stated that one reason I don't like the idea of "doing it" with another person because that's the same area they use to urinate. When vets have to handle that part of an animal to get a urine sample, they usualy wear gloves. That alone tells me there is nothing sanatary about that part of animal so the idea of "getting busy" with an animal is even more repulsive than the idea of doing it with another human. And if I don't like the idea of doing it with one speices, what makes people think I would want to do it with another?

The "normal" furries seem to just like to dress up as animals and meet other people who like to dress up as animals and go to the conventions to meet other people. I would rather make friends with REAL meerkats and animals as opposed to other people just dressed up like them. I'd rather be accepted as part of a group of meerkats. Sure some zoologists and travel guides say that certain meerkats have accepted people into their group; but the meerkats really just accept them as part of the landscape and allow the people to pet them. But do the meerkats actualy groom the person back or try to get the person to play with them? I don't think so. I've heard of this being attempted with wild wolves, bears and even lions. But so far, no one has attempted to try it with meerkats. I'd like to be the first person to do that. Not just observe them and write down their social structure and basicaly what everyone else already knows. I'd like to see if I could get the meerkats to accept me as part of their social structure and not just part of the landscape. Can't be anymore dangerous than attempting it with lions or bears. What's the worst a meerkat could do? Bite me? Stratch me? I really doubt a meerkat is capable of mauling a person to death. I know they will go after a predator such as a hawk or jackal by ganging up on them; but there has never been a reported case of them doing so with a person. Phh, people have been killed by domestic dogs that are supposedly safe and with all the crap I've been through with other people, I'd personaly trust a T-rex or velociraptor before I trusted another person again.

I don't know if I still feel as if I should have been born a cat or meerkat or whatever, but then I probably just learned to cope and people don't really tell me my feelings are wrong or "not normal" anymore.

Your parents sound very old fashioned. Not even allowing you to dress up as a punk... I think two out of my four siblings did that. I didn't do the hair I just did the shorts, wallet chains, Anarchy symbols. Then again my mum did think I was a lesbian...or my sister told me that which was probably a lie.

I feel more like a dog...no, scratch that. An Akita Inu, the most non-social of canis familiaris. I've always been more active and rough and tumble than a cat and I really love medium to large sized dogs. Some breeds only get along with one person or one individual person at different times and I feel I'm like that. I also love that African wild dogs have never been domesticated because they won't allow it. I just love independent (hard to train) non-social dogs. I really don't like how dogs have to be walked with leads and be taught obedience. The more obedient, the less personality they have.

I think all this stemmed from watching Call of the Wild or Homeward Bound or Hambone and Hilly or Benji. Dogs having adventures. That is life to me.

I still love love love my cat to little bits though. She is a cheeky lil bugger.

I have nothing to add. Except to, in light of your location, ask if you've perhaps seen a clumsy scientist guy driving an old beat up Land Rover. Like this:

I don't know if it's weird or not. I don't care if it's weird. I know what you mean. My daughter's dad is really a big extraterrestrial cat every time I look at him. Oddly, our daughter acts more like a cat than a kid most of the time. I've never entirely felt like I belonged on this planet, or this species. What species I'm not sure, but not primate.

My god I understand. I'm really surprised that you went to your parents with this though...I mean, I've happily been part of the furry community since I could coordinate a mouse (and I'll maintain that the thought of sex with other humans grosses me out beyond belief let alone what some of the furry community has been able to produce, eew) and I wouldn't dare face my parents with being furry, they're the type who think they have being human down to a tee which sucks when you don't like being human, right?

Anyway, I don't get what you mean when you said you want to make friends exclusively with animals. I have 2 cats, a dog and a chinchilla who I talk to all the time but, and sadly, they never seem very talkative. Other people may suck but at least they speak our language. I'd love to know more about how they reacted when you confronted them, for personal reference.

I've always identified with animals, and in my teenage years, researched therianthropy, which is basically humans believing that they are part animal, or spiritually animal, though unfortunately therianthropy seems to be linked with a psychological disorder.

I believe I'm human, but don't know what I am spiritually. I feel a spiritual connection with nature, and certain animals act as guides for me.

I just started reading the book Songs of the Gorilla Nation, which is about an autistic woman who has a strong connection with gorillas, and devoted her life to studying them. I'm only 33% of the way through the book, so I can't really comment on it, but she mentions feeling like an anthropologist among humans, which I can relate to. I've also wished that I could enter a colony of animals and live as one of them and study them.

LOL me too. I have two cats and ever since I got them I've bonded with them on an almost animalistic sort of level. They are extremely affectionate towards me as I have no trouble calling them to me like you would a dog. I do take time out my day just to play with them and I have a much easier time enjoying their company over human company. I could totally see myself living life as a cat instead. I like to curly up when I sleep I have different temperaments towards different people. People who know me have even told me I'd have been happier as a cat.

My brother (who was always a bully to me when we are kids) has always made it well known that he is an avid cat hater. He says he hates them because they have no personality.

I feel that way about dogs too. A lot of people think that zebras can't be ridden when in reality they can. It just takes a diffrent approach to train them. Most people's idea of "traning" an animal seems to be beat the s**t out of it. I've always heard that if a horse knows that it is loved by the owner or rider, it will work harder for that person. I always hated the book and the movie, Black Beauty because he let himself be abused. Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron is what I always wanted to see in a horse movie.

I've personaly never been that fond of dogs. My parents are hardcore dog lovers and think anyone who dosen't like dogs is a bad person. They always say when the angels are busy God sends a dog. Never another kind of animal, just a dog. When I explain how my bearded dragon has basicaly prevented me from commiting sucide, they still stick to their idea that dogs are superior. There's just something about dogs that's really off putting. I always thought it was they were so hyper and their movement makes me seasick and they never stop barking. Dogs will wag their tail at their abuser and be happy to see them. Dogs also let themselves be abused. They don't even try to defend themselves.

When dogs do attack people, it's usualy a dog that was trained to do so. I don't think I've ever heard of a case where an abused dog turned on it's abusive owner. Abused horses are a ticking timebomb and abused elephants almost always go postal. Dogs just take it. Humans basicaly created the dog via selective breeding, I think they purposely bred them to be submissive and stupid. I had a dog that I was really close too who would follow me around. I even taught him a few tricks, but it was really just reinforcing things he did naturally. People say you constantaly need to prove to a dog that you are the alpha. I treated this dog like an equal and I never had a problem with him. In fact, that's what helped us to bond. People always thought I was stupid because I believed in being an animal's friend as opposed to a slave driver. That's a bully compex and it may make the animal obey you, but it also teaches the animal to fear you.

Who else was I supposed to go to? I was only three or four years old at the time and the internet didn't exhist back then. I wasn't famaliar with the furry community until my mid teens when I was on a Lion King art site and many of the people there idenified as "furries". Lion King was my obsession for years. Aside from my parents, I've only told my brothers and my phycatrist about it. My phycatrist had no problem with it and my mom now doubts his ability as a phycatrist and says he's just a liberal who will say whatever it is you want to hear. My brother didn't have a problem with it either but my parents said he was just being nice and that he was really against it. When I say I want to make friends exclusively with animals, that's extactaly what I mean. I may speak English and understand most of it, but aparently there is a secret language that humans have that I have not yet learned.

To me my cats are little angels. I've also heard that reptiles can be very affectionate pets too. Anyway people tend to have mixed feelings about cats this wiki article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cultural_d ... ns_of_cats has some good examples.

Quote:
Middle Ages
Since many equated the Black Death with God's wrath against sin, and cats were often considered in league with the Devil due to their aloof and independent nature, cats were killed in masses. Had this bias toward cats not existed, local rodent populations could have been kept down, lessening the spread of plague-infected fleas from host to host

People are too judgmental about other people and even animals. The best thing thing you can do is not care about the ridiculous and uninformed opinions people come down you with MagicMeerkat. The people who form those ridiculous and uninformed opinions are bound to one day cause their own pitfalls. Be smarter than them don't give up on your beliefs and take theirs with a grain of salt.

Woot, I'm not the only person who has wanted to be a snake. I always wonder what it would be like to be another species, whether animal or an alien race on another world.

I've always felt like a giant cat. I've felt that way since I was very little.

With regards to making friends with animals... why not? The volunteers at animal shelters are always thrilled to see people playing/volunteering with the animals (and they don't usually say much about how social you are if you spend most of your time with the animals anyway!)
I have a few human friends, but animals are almost infinitely better friends. =^^=

(On a side note, my room has more TLK merch than should be legal... and TLKFAA was my gateway to the 'net)

I can't think of any actual friends of the human variety. Acquantiaces maybe but all my actual friends aren't human. My bearded dragon, Pippin is my best friend.

TLKFAA was my gateway too. I'm KalahariMeerkat over there. I rarely post anything on there because no one notices me anymore and I've mostly been doing Sonic related stuff lately. Are you still active over there? What's your name? I'll look you up.

Well, I only have a very small number of good friends, and it took years to find them. But they're the sweetest people you could meet- I don't really think of them as "humans," lol, they're "friends."

I'm Queen Cheetah on TLKFAA, but it's been so long I'm not sure if Brian deleted my account or not O.o Do you mind if I look at your page?

EDIT: Just remembered the e-mail address on my page is outdated; someone recently informed me it doesn't work ><
