You discovered it would be Neurotypical?

Now they know how it feels.

I was with diagnosed Aspergers a few months ago. A couple of days ago in the supermarket, just by chance, I overheard two women speaking about aspergers:

"If you were preganant with an Asperger, would you abort it?"
"Oh yes, I wouldn't want to blah blah blah,"

Why are Neurotypicals so ignorant and intollerant?
Has anything similar ever happened to you?

I doubt such woman would even be capable of having an aspie child, and yes, I mean that as an insult. Really, what the hell, this stuff just pisses me off. No, I wouldn't abort an NT child, a life is a life, and you get what you get.

O. M. G. I can only imagine how that must have felt... to be standing there hearing that.... I am so sorry, that is simply horrible. And frankly, I wouldn't want either of those two medusas to be my mother, either!

If I were in your place I would have lost control and had the worst meltdown in history.
They should have aborted her for being a heartless piece of crap.

This type of stuff is why I have the policy that you should be willing to take ANYTHING you could possibly get or NEVER have a child.

I would have gone up to that woman and said that I have Asperger's Syndrome, I've made a good life for myself and that I'd rather be alive and autistic than an abortion statistic.

I wouldn't abort any baby for any reason -- if it were a sure thing that we'd both die, like an ectopic pregnancy, I would, but even then I'd feel that I'd murdered my child -- sort of "self-defense"

In China, where they only allow one child per family, a lot of parents abort baby girls because if there's only going to be one, they want a boy, who traditionally takes care of his parents, while a girl takes care of her husband's parents. Baby girls who aren't aborted are often killed after birth, or abandoned and wind up in orphanages.

If those women had a child with aspergers or had aspergers themselves they would think differently completely.

Oh my freaking god! That woman should be punched in the face. I don't think I would of been able to just walk away. I don't think anyone in my family would of either.

I have thought about it a lot, and I don't think that I would personally abort my child, especially if he/she were special needs of any variety. I wouldn't want to rob the world of that tremendous opportunity. All the kids I know on the spectrum are awesome. All I can say is that those women must not know autistic/aspergers people. They are probably just ignorant.

My guess neither woman know what Asperger's is, they probably lumped it with low functioning autism out of ignorance. We need more PSA's on tv talking about Asperger's and what it is since so many people are being diagnosed with it. We also need to get rid of autism speak's PSA's that show the parents of a low functioning autistic child as someone who is a shellshocked woman who is considering killing her child out of frustation with the child's bad behavior. Autism speaks loves to potray autistic people as screaming animals so what else would those two women think. They were given bad information or no information what so ever.
