I started college right out of high school but a short way through my 2nd year, I abruptly stopped going. I've finally built up the courage will and motivation to go back at the age of 27. I am finishing my Associate in Science (ha guy with AS gets his AS) from a community college with intent to transfer to the near by state university and pursue a Masters in Telecommunications Systems Management.
I will be taking all online classes although I did fine in a class room (as long as we never got divided into groups and had to work together) but now with my work schedule, my wife's work schedule and my 15 month old daughter, online is the only way I'll be able to do it.
I was just wanting to hear from anyone out there about any tips or advice or even words of encouragement. I'd really like to hear about tips for online classes.

Congratulations! I went back to school in my late 40s, got an accounting Bachelor's degree, and I'm halfway through a Master's degree in accounting. I do much better in the classroom than online, but that's just my personal preference. It was a lot of work, very challenging, but at the same time very satisfying.

Congratulations on returning to college. I just graduated 05.07.11 with a BA in geography; minor in psychology. While most of my classes were on campus, I did take several online. I found most of those to be well thought out, and it was possible to learn a lot. The thing I found hardest was the discussion boards they all had. Just like when trying to talk to people F2F, I felt that whatever I entered into the discussion board would be the wrong thing. It really got on my nerves. The reality was, though, that my posts were fine, and I did well in all of those classes. I had only one online professor who was not helpful; not responsive to emails. Most of them replied quickly with actual answers. The experience with discussion boards gave me a little more confidence (and less nervousness) over time. Best of luck! :D

That's been my experience too. However, if you stay motivated and organized, I'm sure you'll do fine....

Good on ya for going back. :thumright:
