It's my understanding that the Jehovah Witnesses never bought into racism, even in countries where it was the law. Also, as I recall, the nazis killed about a third of the Jehovah Witnesses in germany, something like twenty thousand people. They were the only people who were in concentration camps voluntarily, since their only crime was refusing to swear loyalty to the government they could leave any time they wanted, but very few of them did.
I'm not an expert on this, so if I got my facts wrong, somebody let me know. If this is right, they've earned my respect.
Not sure about the numbers, but yes, you have certainly the gist of it correct. And I'm glad that you have said you have respect because of that - many people still think the brothers and sisters (Witnesses) were stupid not to renounce their faith
In fact, they were often used for jobs in the homes of officers and other officials, because it was known that there is no way they would have been spies for other countries, and due to this many kept their lives.
We still refuse to swear loyalty to human governments, which has caused some problems for american Witness children, and in a few countries, Witnesses are jailed for refusing to join the country's armed forces (we refuse to join in any country; just that only in some there is the penalty of jail) and the preaching work is banned in many countries still, but the brothers and sisters in such countries still persevere.
