Aspergers & Injury (I'm new here.)

Greetings. I am new here. About 7 years ago two doctors told me about Aspergers and one of them wanted to send me to a specialist. I blew that off really. Lately its come up again - because the aspergers energy in my life is quite apparent now. I am 48, live in California, and go back and forth between the US and the UK. I get around.

I had a head injury in '98 and was diagnosed (by a neuropsychiatrist) as having "severe post concussion syndrome". I think the head injury caused more issue in my life because of aspergers. Has anyone here have a similar situation and can discuss this with me? Or does anyone have any input about this? I am also Irlens - before the head injury I could tick a lot on the Irlens tests - but now I can tick almost all of them. I am really working on healing and getting to a place where I can write productively again. I have been a professional writer most of my adult life.

I study the mind as a part of my work. I am interested in the brain as well, though I have been a Buddhist for almost twenty years now and this has led me on quest to understand how the mind (within the context of our individualtiy) creates peace. Maybe its a bit of a twist - an aspie who's focus is enlightenment - but that's me!

I hope to connect with some folks here and learn a few things . . . thanks for your interest. Nice to meet you all. There is a LOT here!! !

Don't feel bad about the head trauma, because you are not alone. I see it every day. I do feel sorry for you though. Anyway, welcome to WP!

At least several of us here are interested in the Buddhist perspective. Maybe that's because our existence as individuals tends to suck, so we look for alternative viewpoints and potential solutions that have to do with everyday life, maybe it's just one of countless weird things we get into, I don't know. I'm not sure I would have been motivated to ask those kinds of questions if I had been born as a prince.

Anyway, welcome to our planet. Hope you like it here.

Not a massive head trauma like him - where his brains must have been gushing all over the place and severely damaged - mine was a closed brain trauma - though the aspie energy made it severe.

Glad to see other Buddhist types here. My practice has taught me that life really doesn't suck. I think aspies are naturaul bodhisattvas - here to teach others much.

I am not a Buddhist, but I do agree that life doesn't suck. It's better than not existing at all.

Man do I relate. And this aspergers - its just a soup of stirring things up for people, isn't it? It took a lot (mostly meditation), but I finally found that I accept me. My practice probably taught me to have compassion for others first - but when I learned it for myself it changed my life big time. Thing is - when I changed me - people around me started changing too.

Wow that is wonderful, I spent my life blaming others, since I've accepted me and what I can do and cant' do, I've been having so many wonderful experiences (countered by some very hard ones)

I think hunting has a spiritual connection when done right. Death is part of life and killing your own food (instead of getting it wrapped in plastic) reminds one of that and maintains respect for other creatures and nature.

Could you tell us more about this head injury and the effects it caused?

Whew - bass fishing - er um, no I don't. I do get to feeling a bit carniverous now and then though mostly don't eat meat or kill things. And my little Jack Russell loves bunnies. What can I say? He has never hunted for anything but lizards and then I discourage him. He is still a proper little Jack though.

The quote is from an LA based metaphysical periodical from 2005. I can't recall the name of the paper now. I will try to remember. The quote intesested me from the metaphoric view - of how we all come together and how we all interconnect and you know - end up at the same forum at the same time.

Hi Xon - I am curious why you are interested my head injury and how it affected me. I ask because you only ask me to offer more information and don't say why my situation is of interest to you? I do hope I find someone to discuss this with - someone interested and interesting.

oh and above someone mentioned about Buddhism and logic - I think this is buddhism - this thing called logic.
