anyone play this or the first one? I have the demo and I'm trying to buy the full-game soon. It satisfies my ww2 obsession. It's so hard to learn, but it's worth it.

The Doomsday expansion is worth having as well.

Im quite fond of paradox entertainment games from Europa Universalis II onwards.

I recently got the Doomsday version. Very impressed with it, probably the most polished of all Paradox games. It's odd as I didn't like HOI1 at all, thought it was a complete mess trying to do WW2 on the EU engine. Anyway, for HOI2, this has all changed. Although not perfect, the land, sea and air elements are much better integrated. I'm not the uber-grognard type who cares about turret rotation speeds, but at the high level that this game is works, strategic combat feels so much better than any comparable game.

Are you thinking of getting the download version? I don't know if Doomsday is in the cheap sections of game stores yet (or even available at all), but the download is low-priced. If you like the demo, then I can totally recommend the full version. This game is as good gaming value for money as you'll ever get!

In terms of learning the game, it does have a lot of detail, but most is handled 'under the hood' and you don't really have to understand it at first. Russia is a good starting nation as you don't have to worry about navies and convoys, plus you have a huge army and an even bigger industrial base.

I own all the (original) Paradox games that are available for purchase in the US, except for one bargain one that got bad reviews. I played EU2, the first Hearts of Iron, and Victoria quite a bit. I have to admit I haven't played the sequel too much although not for any particular reason. It is a good game. I easily could get bored and get into a game sometime. I never could really get into Crusader Kings.

One thing you can do now thanks to doomsday is potentially play a nation from 1066 to 1955 using the crusader king converter the unofficial eu2 to victoria converter and the doomsday converter

Ive lead prussia through eu2 to the end of victoria and ended up making some uber germany super power state theres a screenshot of it somewhere in this forum in another thread

That was the one game that I have ever played that I couldn't figure out....it was way to complex.
