Hi, as a part of my IB diploma program I have to submit 4,000 word essay on a specific subject. I decided to do mine on Psychology, with the topic being "To what extent does having an Aspergers syndrome effect one's ability to succeed in a school environment?". Do you think it's a good topic? Do you have any suggestions for me, what should I include?

I'm diagnosed with Aspergers myself so I chose to write it on this topic because it seems like something I would enjoy writing about.

i would see what studies or resources are available. if there are plenty, i'd say the topic sure sounds interesting.

"To what extent does having Asperger's Syndrome/being Aspergic affect one's ability to succeed in a school environment?"

There is only one Asperger's Syndrome, so the 'an' is wrong [1]
Asperger's has an apostrophe [1]
Affect instead of effect [1]
I'd include /being Aspergic as some Aspies prefer one over the other, and this way you can please everyone.

Yeah, I think it's be a good topic to write about, might have a bit of difficulty finding a bunch of Aspies to fill out questionnaires and stuff thoguh

Thank you for your responses, I started writing the paper and I do believe that there's resources. To7m, I wasn't aware of the term Aspergic, do you think it would be appropriate to use it for my essay though?

I'd use it, it probably isn't a word formally used much, but if you include a little side note about using those terms for something along the lines of political correctness, it should be fine,,, I think... I dunno, ask a teacher/professor :P

You might want to try messaging a few members who are in high school, with Autism being a diverse spectrum.

(Psst, that means me!)

You could also contact these guys

http://www.autism.org.uk/our-services/e ... hools.aspx

They run dedicated schools for autistic children.

A couple of people here have said that they are good at answering emails as they are used to dealing with autistics who are uncomfortable or unable to communicate verbally.
