Good evening everyone. I've been recently diagnosed with Asperger's. It is a bit scary but it also explains a lot. I'm 29, and an infantry Marine who specializes in intelligence operations. Having had this all sorted out recently has really helped me put the pieces of myself together, but I'm now kind of lost with what to do with it all. I also have extreme synesthesia. Does anybody else here experience that?

Intelligence, huh? That must be a very Aspie-friendly job, especially if you are a bit introverted.

I would try to understand and accept it. It doesn't change who you are. In fact, it may be advantageous, a gift. I don't have synethesia, but if it doesn't bother you, view it as a gift. I think I may have experienced it once; it was pretty cool. I also sometimes see colors but I think they are just auras, which are probably caused by migraines or my retina detaching (not sure). I remember riding my bike at night once, and it was like being in space and seeing nebulas.

Thanks for serving your country. I couldn't imagine a better MOS than intelligence.

Just wondering, how would one who is in the Marines go about getting a diagnosis? Would you go to BAS?

Just wanted to say hi! I don't have the flavor of Asperger's that you do. I do wish to thank you for your service though. I have worked with Marines in various situations over the years, and Marines love to rock n' roll! I don't doubt that you may have it a little tougher than I do though. I may not be a marine, but it doesn't take one to realize that marines have it tougher than most. Your flavor of Asperger's may not help the situation. But you still serve and no one can take that away from you. You also should remember that dummies don't make it into the Marine Corps. You got in because you've got something on the ball. That's important. Never forget it.

At the risk of getting preachy, you're not in this alone. Yes, the Marine Corps is a brotherhood. But so are we aspies. To be able to hobble along in life, we must do so together. And don't let my being an officer deter you. I am in the twilight of my career, and once I hit O-5 I'll finish my time and then I'm out.

Take care - and HEY! Let's be careful out there!!

Hello! I'm a newbie, too. :D

First, thank you for what you do for our country.

I was diagnosed with Asperger's pretty early in life (not synthesia, though), so I don't know what it would be like to have a diagnosis after over 20 years. But just remember that you've lived all that time and done everything you have without the diagnosis. It doesn't change anything but the way you tackle some problems you might be having. The diagnosis actually gives you the ability to properly fix some problems.

So good luck sorting through all this, and don't let it discourage you.
