Maybe I'm just sensitive. I know my AS can make sensitive to a lot of things but lately I've been noticing a lot of comments on boards and YT that're becoming the most popular comments. Every time a woman is on YT or posts a topic about herself, the comments get filled with "Go back to the kitchen", "You're too ugly to be on camera plz stick with cooking", "slut should stick to the kitchen", and on and on. I know I'm probably wrong with my perception or maybe I take it personally because I happen to be a female. At first I was thinking of loading a couple of videos on YT but the comments on even my friends are overwhelming and discouraging. I'm just wondering, is it just me? Maybe I'm being overly sensitive. I don't know but I feel like my self esteem even though it's always been low has started dropping even more. Perhaps social networks aren't the best place to socialize? Just wondering if I'm alone on this issue.

If you are sensitive to receiving unwanted comments from the many idiots who use social networking sites don't bother enabling the comments for your video.

I have one YouTube channel which attracts some unsavory comments from a mostly adult subscriber base so I only allow comments after I approve them.
I can't get over how some people have such a sad life that the idea of trashing others with comments is 'fun'. I have a woman in her 50s somewhere in America persistantly posting the most vile things and I have never allowed her comments to show and almost 3 years later she still tries to get through under the radar.

There was a documentary on TV recently about internet bullying and they talked about trolls including interviewing someone who used to be involved with them and doorstepping one. The clip that really shocked me though was a young girl (I can't remember her age now but it was under 12) who had posted a video on the web (YouTube I think) and it was a bit obnoxious and braggy (as kids can be sometimes). The trolls instigated a sustained harrassment campaign against her. Her real address was published online and pranks were played at her actual house as well as vile comments being posted to her online and her computer being hacked etc. There was a new video posted of her sobbing and begging them to stop and leave her alone. THIS WAS A PRIMARY SCHOOL AGE CHILD!! !

You are not being overly sensitive. There is a (apparently large) group of people on YouTube who seem to do nothing but post extremely offensive comments, no matter what the content of the video they comment on, and many of them delight in posting hateful things about women in particular. If I ever posted anything on YT, even something about peace, kittens, and rainbows, I would not enable comments.

I have 34 videos on YouTube and haven't had a problem with any bad comments on my videos, and I have comments enabled. I did have a troll frequenting my YT page at one point. I just kept correcting his grammar and giving no other response to the trash he was putting on my page (deleting it if it was obscene). He ended up apologizing...LOL.

Thanks guys. Sorry I'm late replying. I'm glad I'm not alone and yes it seems YT's filled with trolls. So I think I'm going to not share any videos unless it's with friends but that's a big if.

No, you're not being sensitive. I hate "kitchen jokes." If a man makes one and then expects me to cook for him, think again. :/

no that's not being overly sensitive. it is never oversensitive if you percieve something to be sexist or any other -ism. women are just socialised to think that & take it. you are right to be so teed off. this sort of sexist bs pervades the internet and real life and we shouldn't have to just deal with it. this stuff comes up every time women think it is ok to talk about anything other than cooking or knitting or flowers or whatever on the net or anywhere. it always shows the offending party up as an idiot though. telling sexist creepazoids off always makes me feel better in such circumstances even though it is often futile.

Kitchen/cleaning jokes always frustrate me. When I see one, I just try to remind myself that the poster is either a.) making the joke for the sole purpose of inciting a reaction (trolling), b.) insecure, or c.) traumatized by negative past experiences involving women. In any case, I'll usually begin to pity the person making the joke.

However, if you're more of a vindictive type, do remember that everyone can have negative stereotypes applied to them, and you can easily turn such stereotypes back at the attacker. Example:

YouTube User: wat r u doing out of the kitchen?? go make me a sammich!
You: I'll think about it--in the meantime, get your a** back in the garage and make me something pretty.

Now, I'm not a man-hater in any way, and I don't really believe that men must "belong" in one area or another...however, it's always funny to see how some posters react when you fight fire with fire.

You definitely aren't being oversensitive. Kitchen jokes and any other sexist jokes are terrible. You won't be able to avoid them entirely on YouTube though... trolls post everywhere on any type of video. I don't really have anything to add to this discussion other than try not to let them get to you.
