What were your favorite games as a kid?

PC:

Eco Quest 2: Lost Secrets of the Rainforest
The Time Warp of Dr. Brain
Word Rescue
Reader Rabbit
Math Rabbit
Commander Keen games
Duke Nukem 1 and 2
Treasure MathStorm
Chip's Challenge
Jezzball

Board/dice games:
Pictionary
Splat!
Trivial Pursuit
Yahtzee
Boggle

Card games:
Go Fish
King's Corners
Concentration

I didn't have a console or anything, so no favorites there, except Mario 64 when at my grandparents' house, lol!

In childhood my favorite games were:

Cards--Canasta
Board--Monopoly

Computer games and Trivial Pursuit didn't exist when I was a child. I now like Trivial Pursuit, which I used to play as an adult with my older sister, but we no longer live near enough for easy visits. She now has arthritis in her hip, so she can't handle a long car ride to my place, and I now have sleep apnea, so I am too tired all the time, and can no longer stay awake on a long drive. Since I would be the driver, that would not be a good thing. :-D We now have to settle for phone calls and emails. For the record, I can handle the shorter drives to run errands. :-D

I don't really have a favorite PC game, but have tried a number of them. Some were interesting, and some I didn't really care for.

To take a stab at this:

Atari 2600:
Moon Patrol
Pole Position
Megamania (?)
Asteroid

Nintendo:
Zelda - Original, Adventures of Link
Dragon Warrior I
Faxanadu
Castlevania II
Bionic Commando
Batman
Double Dragon series
Ninja Gaiden series
Shadowgate
Mario Bros 2
Blastermaster
Metroid
Rygar
Mike Tyson's Punchout
(there was also some kind of Goonies game some of my friends were stuck on - that was okay)
For Nintendo I'm sure there's more...

Genesis:
Alteredbeast (sp?)
Golden Ax
Sword of Vermilion
Afterburner
Phantasy Star II
Populous
Might & Magic (albeit it was a bit antiquated even for its time)

Turbographix:
Splatterhouse
(another game I can't remember the name of - robot with a sword)

PC Games:
Quest For Glory series (about the only thing decent at the time)
Zork on my friend's old green-screen Apple

This. Except for the "I still have it" part: I do not have my Mega Drive/Genesis anymore. But I still play Sonic on emulators.

Also, Turma da Mônica na Terra dos Monstros (a licensed brazilian hack of Wonder Boy in Monster Land, featuring Monica's Gang characters) was (and still is) my favorite game on the Mega Drive.

On the PlayStation, I would choose Jersey Devil, Digimon World and Boombots as my favorite games when I was a kid. And Driver 2, of course.

I absolutely loved playing Super Mario 64 when I was younger, until the game cartridge got lost of course. :(

Think I was 19 or 20 when I first touched an N64 (had a pretty solid break from games between 14 and then), though I have to admit - Ocarina of Time was one of the few later Zelda games that was at least as epic as the first.

For the rest of it though it was me and my guy friends doing shots of vodka and being absolutely ruthless to each other on Golden Eye and Perfect Dark.

For the PC it was X-Wing and Tie Fighter. For the Genesis it was the port of Star Control. For the NES it was Zelda, Metroid and Blaster Master. And I STILL have all of them, and play them from time to time still.

What comes to mind are the following (no coherent order, sorry):

Adventure games: Maniac Mansion (C64/NES), Zak McKracken & The Alien Mindbenders (Amiga), The Secret Of Money Island (Amiga), King´s Quest series (Amiga), Space Quest 2 (Amiga), Deja Vu (Amiga), It Came From The Desert (Amiga), King Of Chicago (Amiga).

Platform games: Buble Bobble (C64/NES), Mario series (NES), Megaman 2 (NES), Wonderboy In Monsterland (Amiga), New Zealand Story (C64/Amiga), Duck Tales (both NES & Amiga versions, which were completely different), Frogger 1 & 2 (C64), The Great Giana Sisters (C64), Moon Patrol (C64).

Action games: Shinobi (C64), Contra (C64), Gryzor (C64), Ikari Warriors (Amiga), Cabal (Amiga), Gauntlet 1 & 2 (C64), Hysteria (C64), Aaargh! (C64), Rampage (Amiga), Golden Axe (Amiga), Aaargh (C64), Rampage (Amiga), Space Harrier (C64)

Fighting games: Double Dragon (C64), Street Fighter II (Amiga)

Shoot 'em ups: 1943 (C64), Silkworm (Amiga)

Strategy: Defender Of The Crown (C64/Amiga), Pirates (Amiga), Civilization (Amiga)

Simulation: Wings (Amiga), Destroyer (C64), Silent Service (Amiga)

Racing: Pit Stop 2 (C64), Lotus Challenge 1 & 2 (Amiga), Buggy Boy (Amiga), Turbo Outrun (Amiga)

Puzzle/Skill: Boulder Dash series (C64), Krakout (C64), Pang (C64/Amiga)

Other: Law Of The West (C64), Impossible Mission 1 & 2, (C64) H.E.R.O. (C64), Paperboy (Amiga), Typhoon Thompson In Search Of The Sea Child (Amiga), Spy vs. Spy 1 (C64) & 3 (NES)

Wow, it really brought back a lot of memories trying to remember the games of the past. What struck me is how much time I wasted on games that I didn´t actually enjoy. Some games, like The Last Ninja, I thought were cool and so I wanted to like them but they were mostly irritating since I was bad at them and didn´t understand how they worked (you know, effective fighting strategy, enemies' weak points, which order to do stuff). The manuals back then were sparse at best and no internet to get tips from (I had few friends and they were even worse than me at games so they couldn´t help).
