including geek talk on string theory, history of computers, chess, Fermat's last theorem, "philosophy", etc. as far as social integration is concerned.

I admit I don't know how to talk about normal things with normal people, particularly normal women. I don't know what kind of questions to ask, and how to sustain interest and the conversations.

But geek interests like philosophy are deadly. Avoid

Depends on who your friends are. I talk about string theory to make people laugh, myself.

I am sometimes labelled as a geek from just their first impressions.

Most NTs who know me think I'm a Weirdo or a creep

People also think I'm a nerd just because I like to go on the computer most of the time, and do well at school, and can't socialise with girls.

I can't even socialise with boys either, but they don't know that.

I HATE IT!! !! :x

Stereotypical people. :x :x

Isn't that an approximate definition of nerd? :P Of course, I tend to take the nerd label with pride. I LIKE nerds. Nerds talk about interesting things. They also tend to drink less or in the very least include other interesting interaction apart from 'consume alcohol' into their social events. That's why I joined MENSA.

Yup, people like to label, stereotype and conform. But there is good news. The tendency to do these things dimininishes with age. Most notably between the ages of 30 and 40. So, it's just a matter of time. :P

I'd think string theory and chess and that are all nerd talk, not geek talk. I'm a geek myself and a lot of what jonathan mentioned would just be airplanes circling. My friend and I are known to geek about various things - roads, TV, electronic stuff, and even our childhood toys. And yes, occasionally, computers. And we don't drink, either.

Hmmm...maybe we're actually gerds. Or neeks.

Or Gerdy neeks?

Seriously, people are more apt to talk about television and movies than denser topics like, uh, Atari BASIC (don't get me started). That's what has saved me from dead conversations with non-nerds in the past, television and movies, particularly those I grew up with.

It really depends on who your friends are. I have some friends with whom I can discuss philosophy and other atypical conversation topics. And then there are those people who don't know Iwo Jima from Nagasaki and whose only concern is whether or not the next episode of LOST is going to be any good. I tend to stay away from those people out of principle.

What you mentioned sounds more like nerd talk rather than geek talk. It could also very well be intellectual talk, which is very different than casual talk (or small talk, NOT to be confused with smallpox, which is what I always think of when I hear "small talk"). If you're going to talk about those ideas, just be careful who you talk to them about.

Most NT's seem almost afraid of History. Or any subject that's chock full of facts, and isn't fashion oriented. They will prattle on and on about FOOTBALL, but mention WWII history, and all they know is that we were so mean to the Japanese who were living here in the States, that we put them in Internments camps!! !

Computer history? They think computers invented themselves, or some dim notion that Bill Gates invented computers. Alan Turing? Never heard of him.

If you want to tal with NT's, you'd better start watching a lot of TV, and read every Fashionista Magazine you can lay your hands on ....

Yeah, but I've been called this name for 6 years now.

I've been severly bullied because of this and is one of the root problems to my depression.

Knowing my luck, I'll probably be still called names anyways, by I don't care. :)

I know how to ignore. :)

I can't wait to go to my 10 year reunion and hang out with all my nerd, geek, and freek friends. We can all talk about our interesting jobs, new cars, nice houses, and the differences we make in the world.

Let the jocks and preps talk about how cool they were in high school and all the girls the macked back then. Cause at the end of the night they have to go back to their 9 ta 5 minimum wage job and ask themselves every day why they didn't spend their time reading books, studying, and making somthing of themselves.

Take the title nerd, geek, or freek proudly cause those that call you those names are jelous of you or angry at themselves and in the end those people don't make it in the real world. I mean look at it this way, how many "cool" people are there in any given school, 1 percent, if that, and most of them are just normal hangeron people that are only cool by assosiation. Once you leave the misconstrued perspective of school you find that everyone is a nerd of one type or another and they all hate the bully. And when hostile environments lead to cops, lawyers, and lawsuits instead of teachers, principles, and detention.. well, sufficet to say real life is nothing like you think it is durning your school years. :)

FOOTBALL, SEX, ALCOHOL. Know about these things and you'll have no problem socializing with NTs. In fact, those are the only things I ever hear being discussed by my peers. I have no friends and people consider me a freak. I never bring up nerd topics because i know they dont want to hear it. They can just tell by looking at me.

Personally I'd rather pursue my "geeky" interests than do stupid NT things. It really doesn't bother me that I don't have any friends - I've completely lacked friends for a few years now and I've gotten used to it so it isn't that bad anymore.

True about most NT's fearing history, I am into 55-63 built custom cars as well as rockabilly and roots surf and hot rod music its hard too spark up a conversation at work on topics other than the weather, if i start talking about stuff young people did in 1961 they get the s**ts. they seem to think nothing existed before last week.

Anyway, the stuff about the japs getting a hard time is news to me, my grand father (who was like my father since my dad died when I was 3) was captured by the japs, he didnt want us to know how bad it was or to hold a grudge but we heard his stories on tv and on the radio and in books, the japs would often cut meat of the aussie prisoners and eat the meat in font of the prisoners, they would then urinate on the prisoners wounds were the meat was cut from wich gave a burning feeling, sometimes they would cut meat of the prisoners legs and stuff and just put it in tins for later. after the war ended the japs continued torturing the prisoners and eventully took them on a march till they killed over 2000 of them for fun, 6 escaped along the way, 1 was my grandad, the japs were ordered by their evil emperor to kill the lot even though the war had ended, my grandad was kept alive in the jungle by natives till he was found i think about 6 weeks later.
he tried for years to just get the japs to say sorry but the rotten bastards just refused.

Heck, I can't even talk about the weather with most NT's! When the subject turns to weather, I start talking about wind currents and updrafts and how they make storms, and how to simly walk outside and figure out how the weather is going to be the next day based on observation. I end up loosing most NT's pretty quickly obviously.

I've found that most NT men obsess about professional sports. Not playing them mind you, but how other people play them. Most of them all have an opininon about how a particular person should play, but none of them actually get out there and play the sport themselves!

NT women OTOH, seem to obsessively gossip. Women seem to scrutinize each other, and the men around them unusually hard, and then make a big deal about simple stuff. Chances are, you've seen this. I trimmed my beard up for summertime one year, and the next thing I know one of the office girls are asking me who the new missus is in my life...HUH?!?!?! She didn't even see my missing beard, she called me at my desk to ask me what's up because she'd heard some talk from another girl who did see me!

Well, if there isn't any people around them to gossip about, they gossip about celebrities!
