.I have recently read that hearing problems can be linked to Aspergers Syndrome.

Hearing problems have been a constant difficulty for me, not interms of volume, but clarity. Listening in a room with poor acoustics, or being in competition with other noise is very difficult.

After much badgering from my wife I had an examination and hearing test from a specialist at the hospital' He told me there was nothing wrong with either my ears, or hearing.

Have other people here experienced this and if so have you found an answer tpo rhe problem?

There may be nothing mechanical wrong with your hearing, but you may have a neurological problem processing the sounds you hear in the area of clarity. I have a slight loss of hearing due to loud noise at several family functions I attended when younger--the DJs played the music at full blast, driving me out of the dining halls and into the rest rooms. I was my mother's driver so I couldn't get out of going. :-( However, I have always had a problem with clarity, to some extent. I sometimes have a problem understanding people on the phone or radio if the sound quality isn't good. I also have trouble understanding clarity in noisy, crowded areas. I do have problems processing input mentally, and do better with visual input, so I guess my sound clarity issue is part of my processing problems. Because of my processing problems it often takes me longer to analyse and understand input, which often leads to a time delay in my responses.

I'm not sure of what can be done at this point, as it seems to be a processing rather than a mechanical problem. If it were fixable by hearing aid that would be good, but I don't see how a hearing aid can fix a mental processing issue. I do think it may be part of your collection of syndrome symptoms, though.

Thanks for the reply. I always had a delayed response as a child, but assumed that was just me being slow, having to thinking things through before giving an answer. However, your idea of a delay due to poor neurological processing is interesting.

I have hearing loss to a comical degree. One time my sister said "Building a mystery is so cool" but what I heard her say was "Your Luna story is so cool" I was like "Yeah it's okay I guess" And she was like "You don't like that song?" And I was like "what song?" And she was like "Building a Mystery" And I was really embarrassed and I said. "Oh I thought you said Your Luna Story"

It sounds like both of you should get your hearing tested, especially her. :nerdy:

I used to have exceptional acoustic sensitivity, but after years of sticking my head in W bins I have permanent tinnitus and a slight top end hearing loss on the right.
Despite my early sensitivity I've always had problems differentiating multiple simultaneous conversations and I am dreadful with accents, even ones I am very familiar with. My partner is forever complaining I'm ignoring her when, in fact, I'm still interpreting what she's said.
It doesn't help that she has some hearing loss too, as she's often telling me to point my voice towards her... and speak louder... and enunciate... But on the 5th attempt I'm told off for Screaming.

You could have Auditory Processing Disorder.
It's common with autism.

Same but I had hearing loss as a child too due to ear inflammation. I no longer have the ear ringing and apparently my audiogram is fine, but it doesn't look like it at all. I can understand other people only if it's quiet or if they shout to me when there is background noise. Sometimes I can't even understand shouting. I avoid phones as much as I can, I have to turn up the volume in TV or turn on subtitles. And so on.

If you buy sweet oil and dip cotton wool and sleep overnight then next day go to clinic to have ears stringed.
Basically a water string that clear any wax pushed to deep, accumulated.
But if checked your ears already and don't have fluid on middle ear like me, I'm unsure.

I can't live without earbuds, as any wax makes me deaf?
