A couple weeks earlier, my psychiatrist prescribed me Adderall, since she suspects I have ADHD. So far, I haven't noticed any progress. Though after I take it early in the morning, I noticed that when I'm in math, my first class of the day, I am able to watch the teacher writting things on the board without any other thoughts intruding my mind, even though I'm still a tiny bit spaced out.

But as the medication wears off, I start to stim and figet more than I normally would. Also, once a classmate was trying to talk to me, I could hear her voice, but it was muffled and I couldn't make out what she was saying. I wasn't able to block out the background noises (other people's conversations, paper shuffling, etc.) to be able to hear her correctly. Even though she was right next to me, not even a foot away, I had to ask her to repeat it at least five times. The day before, when I was swimming, I could barely get what the coach was talking about because I could not block off the sound of the bubbles the jet/heater made. I almost thought I was going deaf, but no, it's just because I just hear everything at once. I might not have shown it on my face, but it was really frustrating.

My hearing's always been more sensitive than others and I hear stuff in the background most people don't notice, but not to the point where I am not able to make out what a person is saying.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? I don't think this is on the list of side effects of Adderall.

Are you taking the XR capsules or the standard tablets? The tablets wear off quickly and are not as smooth in their release.

When I was in 5th grade they put me on 10mg and nothing happened. So they raised the dosage to 20mg. I was really on edge, and got 2 hours of sleep 3 nights in a row. I hate adderall. And my mom didn't like the common side effect of loss of appetite since I have always been skinny

I'm taking the tablets, and at a dose of 10 mg.

My appetite's been deteriorating quite a bit lately too. Several days ago, I only got several bites of food throughout the entire day. I'm guessing I should get off of it then?

Yes you should. Or just make yourself eat a reasonable amount

Unfortunately I either feel like vomiting or get strong, but absolutely random feelings of emptiness when I force myself to eat.

Personally I refuse to take meds from all the different stuff that a psychiatrist had me try and didn't work.

This med is not a good match for you. Tell your parents and the doc about the problems you are having with it, so you are taking yourself off of it. Ask the doc if there is something else you can try.

I was on several different meds as a preteen, including Ritalin, and Phenolbarbitol. None of them helped me at all, and all of them gave me unpleasant side effects, so I eventually took myself off of them. At that time I chose not to tell my parents and the docs I was taking myself off of them, because they would have given me a hard time about it, even though the meds were not helping, and were causing side effect problems. Since then, I have heard a lot of bad stuff about psych drugs, so I prefer to treat myself with my coping mechanisms instead.

Since you are working with a doctor, do let the doc and your parents know that the Adderall is not working out for you.

Have you been to a Hearing Specialist?. You know "Hearing aids" don't just help amplify, they also can be used for noise cancellation ( more advanced ear plug ). It does not bother me as much, but a clock, dc motor, faulty brightness on a tv, noisy fan etc.

Edit:- just you say "even though I'm still a tiny bit spaced out", maybe the drug is kicking in & your noticing the real problem? Just guessing around.

No I haven't been to a hearing specialist. I've always thought it was normal to hear things the way I do until recently, so I never asked help for it. How much would a hearing aid cost anyway?

Don't have a clue we have the NHS in this country. Just re-looked up the implant I was looking at before for a bone-anchored hearing aid, that expensive though.

Could be totally wrong, but if you never had a hearing specialist. It could just be you can't filter the sounds out. & it is the drug causing it. But from another post I seen, they do not even say they know they are stimming until they become focused.

It's probably because of that. I guess that could also be why I thought I was stimming a lot more. But if I was able to notice that because I was focused, then the medication worked, and if the medication worked, why wasn't I able to filter out all those sounds and stop stimming?

No, loss of appetite is very common among people who take dextroamphetamine (adderall). Also, make sure you're not taking omega-3 EPA+DHA pills while taking adderall. Same goes for consuming vitamin C and citric acid as they will absorb the amphetamines. If you're still experiencing issues, consult your doctor and see about a 'prodrug' called vyvance.

You should try the XR capsules. They're better

But you should also note about how they're banned in Canada due to heart-attacks.
