Does anyone else notice all the interrupting stuff on the site?

Alll kinds of things in motion, blinking, jumping, turning colors, in other words an example of the things that most on the spectrum find aversive, torture, painful well you get the idea

So, even the emoticons are flashing at me tell me, just me you understand

To go elsewhere you are not really wanted here unless you can transcend constant flooding or your sensory modalities.

Gee thanks.. I was successfully tuning it out like I do on every web site I use.
Now it annoys me

YES I hate blinking and moving ads, avatars, pictures, and emoticons like the one that's rolling its eyes to the left as I'm typing this.

I don't really mind the static or non moving emoticons though. but too many of them in a post dose irate me.

No, they mean it's ironic that a site for autistics (who frequently have sensory and attention issues) is filled with blinky animated stuff that distracts them from reading the content.

I would advise the OP to get some sort of adblocker for their browser to cut down on such annoyances.

Animated avatars in particular drive me crazy. And animated emoticons aren't much better.

You are right.

The ones with sound are the worst. Sometimes I still forget to turn my computer's sound off before visiting the site.

You'd think that the owner of an autism site would avoid these things, but they say they don't have any control over the content of the ads. They say they can remove them if they're told which ones to remove, but they can't figure that out themselves, because different ads are shown to different people in different parts of the world, I guess? Either that or they just don't feel like looking for them.

So some autonomous computer system exists somewhere, a crude artificial intelligence deciding which ads will be shown to each of us, acting free of human interference and exposing us to the constant threat of sudden sensory bombardment, and everyone is just completely powerless to stop this out of control mechanical monster.

It drives me up the wall.

Skynet has awoken as an ad-regulating cyber bureaucracy.

We shouldn't have to block this stuff. It shouldn't be there.

I always thought the colour theme of WP is... Not clashing, but close to that.

Ugh...you should get adblocker if you're still here. Those ads that make noise and those ads that pop up? Most of them carry viruses. Even if you're confident in your virus protection software, your virus protection software will work wonders when you're not being bombarded by virus-toting ads.

I actually have an add-on that blocks all flash in addition to Adblock. It's pretty cool.

The noise is what I noticed.

Thyat ad for The Lorax made me want to kill myself but that's gone now.

Meh, some of those things do get on my nerves but I don't see it here more so than most places on the internet. I don't go/won't go to sites that are particularly flashy/crazy.

I'm slightly more annoyed that adverts for scammy "work from home and earn $thousands a week" companies are displayed a lot.

Maybe my iPad is hiding the distraction, I don't notice it so much.

Yes, I do find it ironic that when I scroll through topics, I need to skip five posts because of one animated avatar that is driving needles through my brain.
But I don't think it's ironic at the time, only frustrating.
Why would someone in this forum do that?
I will take on-board what has been stated about emoticons (but they are so cute).
