I'm diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome and I have a problem dealing with the personalities of most individuals that I come in contact with. It can be something as small as the way they laugh or pronounce a certain word. I also can't stand it when other guys want to pat me on the back (in the form of a greeting.) The worst part about it is that I'm getting worse with it. Oh, and don't get me started on people who constantly talk about sports and famous athletes. I sometimes feel as if I'm the only person on planet Earth that doesn't care about athleticism. When I want to talk about subjects like computers with other people, I get looked at like I'm some weird individual. If it wasn't for my overwhelming need to feel loved by a woman, I think I would live a life of complete solitude. That way I wouldn't have to put up with annoying aspects of other people.
I am starting to wonder if I am on the edge of being a Covert Schizoid. When I was assessed by a psychologist, I was placed in the 90th percentile for social isolation.

Sorry for ranting a bit in this post.

Sorry dude, sucks doesn't it? I have the complete opposite problem....I piss off everyone I come in contact with. I find it much easier to be alone...that way I step on fewer toes during the day.

I have both problems. Everyone annoys me and I annoy everyone.

I welcome the personalities of most people, because I know how it feels to be hated for having a personality that's different.

So maybe the problem here isn't Aspergers? Controversial.

For me, it is Aspergers. I just don't get people's body language though I am expected to understand them. What ends up happening is that I constantly annoy & irritate others until they blow up at me.

Personally I think that's just a little part of your personality rather than it being related to aspergers. I think some people (like me) are just very cynical. For me I have massive problems with people who have kind of false personalities. That annoys me more than anything when people try to be somebody else. I strongly believe in just trying to be yourself (whatever that is). Dunno whether you can relate to that like...

LOL's  yeah, have to say I agree as well :wtg: oh, and I totally relate to what Joerose said ^^^ can't stand a fake, and for some reason, fake people do not like it pointed out to them that they're fake, which would seem to indicate that 1. I'm not supposed to point that out and 2. they already KNOW they're fake, but they're totally OK with the concept, which leaves me nothing but disgust at their disingenuineness...

Same here! One minuscule thing about a person can cause me to dislike them. Whether the sound of their voice, their laugh, how "touchy-feely" they are or what they choose to talk about. Granted, I can warm up to people, it just takes a lot of time, patience and determination from both parties to create a successful acquaintanceship.

What I don't understand is, why do you feel the need to be loved by a woman? Yet all others can be dismissed.

I felt that way until I married my husband, and now i don't need anyone else. I can't explain it, except humans are "supposed to" ** yeah I know, just take it for what it's worth*** pair up, but my wiring got that far and then stopped. I don't want and don't have children, nor friends nor a social life. And, I am lucky enough that the husband had a job where he's driving on the road for several days then home. I have canine companionship, and that's pretty much a perfect balance for an aspie, or it would be, if our house weren't in such a busy location. I'm most distraught about that-- too close to a college, and a store, and on a corner, and... well, that's a different subject. But I totally get the needing one other person to complete my insular life. One, but no more, either invited nor uninvited. Just part of the wonky wiring, I guess.

Yes, I seem to turn others off, and they turn me off, too. But that's okay, as I am a hermit by choice. Being socially isolated doesn't make you schizoid, it just means you are a full blown introvert. Mental illness and being an introvert are not automatically comorbid. I am an introvert, but not schizoid. I do have AvPD (Avoident Personality Disorder--self diagnosed, but met every criteria) along with my Asperger's, but that is not so unusual on the spectrum.

I have no friends. My relatives don't share many of my interests, and don't really want to hear about the ones they don't share. Also, I do share your lack of interest in sports. On those rare occasions when I visit my father and step mom at their summer home, they almost always have at least one TV on and tuned to a sporting event. Mostly golf and foot ball, but other sports, too. I can understand people liking to actually play sports--(after all, it is a game), or watch if their little darling is on the team, but I can't understand anyone else wanting to watch without actually playing, too. Watching without playing is boring! If people like the game that much they should get out there and play it. DUH!

I don't know how to not annoy people or how not to be annoyed by them, except to limit my contact with them, which I do. Fortunately, I prefer being alone.

But do you love them in return? Or do you allow them into your life because they are tolerable?

I am naturally attracted to women and in my mind I want to feel accepted by one. I get that indescribable feeling when I hug a woman and look into her eyes. I may get annoyed with most people but it's not enough to make me indifferent to wanting to be accepted by those I am attracted to.
