Hello all.
Hope I'm not duplicating a previous thread, just thought it'd be interesting (for some folks anyways) to recommend some movies.
Whether because it's so epicly-awesome it simply must be shared or perhaps you have a film in mind for someone specific etc

Plus, ulterior motive.. I'm useless at picking films for myself.
I would only ask the usual, be nice and civil and that we try not to include spoilers and also give a heads-up for graphic content of various kinds so as to not inadvertently direct someone to a movie they might find disturbing or otherwise unsavoury.

So a couple from me, Bubba ho-tep, a comedy that is bizarre as it is hilarious (deja vu lol i've said this before somewhere) and fairly inoffensive and light.
And the original "rollerball", a dystopian imagining of the future that's pretty messed up. This one has some pretty strong violence though and is generally a less comfortable experience..

So there goes that, let's see how it works out. :)

I'm glad this thread exists, really. I'm pretty awful at picking films, so I usually watch whatever my friends are watching. I'll start keeping a list of movies mentioned here.
There are two movies I'd like to recommend. The Room, a movie with a cult following which is either intentionally or unintentionally funny while presented as a drama, is the first.

And Troll 2, which is probably the best example of a movie where you just want to yell at the characters for being dangerously stupid. I mean, if you're being chased by goblins trying to turn you into a plant and eat you, the worst place to run to is probably an old house in the middle of nowhere inhabited by a crazy, stereotypical witch who wants to feed you green slime. And bonus points for the scene where it's implied the little boy pees over the food to prevent his parents from being poisoned and eaten, and the poorly-acted scene where the nerdy guy yells "They're eating her! And then they're going to eat me! Oh my goooooooooooooood!".

I guess the easiest way for me to do this would be to go by genre according to IMDB. Keep in mind that these aren't my all-time favorites, but rather ones I would recommend to anyone looking to explore a certain category.

Action: Leon The Professional
Adventure: The Adventures Of Robin Hood
Animation: Beauty & The Beast
Biography: The King's Speech
Comedy: Groundhog Day
Crime: The Usual Suspects
Documentary: Man On Wire
Drama: The Lives Of Others
Family: Hugo
Fantasy: The Princess Bride
Film Noir: Double Indemnity
History: Apollo 13
Horror: The Exorcist
Musical: Singin' In The Rain
Mystery: Memento
Romance: City Lights
Sci-Fi: Metropolis
Sport: Murderball
Thriller: The Night Of The Hunter
War: The Best Years Of Our Lives
Western: The Searchers

Wow replies, thanks folks. Already some fine suggestions.
Reminds me too that I'm gonna have to watch alien again soon and will still be scared. Kinda can't watch new horror films, long story, but will be seeing prometheus out of love for the series.

Am leaning towards the usual suspects tonight though if I can find it.
Thanks again for suggestions so far, really was stuck. :)

This got me thinking earlier, then I got distracted and forgot but anyways.. Was thinking that this thread could be used to request movies by genre ie "anybody got a suggestion for a good war movie, comedy"etc just a thought.

How to train your dragon! Even though it is PG and marketed towards kids mainly it is by far my favorite movie. There are just so many things about it that are awesome

Fight Club or Pulp Fiction. You can't go wrong with either.

Agreed, I don't know why everyone thinks so much of the sequel (Aliens), it was just a watered-down copy with more explosions and guns.

OMG, I just typed out a long list of movies that I thought you might like then I clicked the wrong thing and lost it.

I'm furious with myself right now. Grrrrrrr......

I'll type it up again later.

I hate when that happens lol!

Anything Johnny Depp stars in, especially if it's directed by Tim Burton.
