I experience this when before going to bed. However, I read they are usually frightening, and they are not at all. In fact, they are very" everyday", like someone might say "I am going to the store now" or I may multiple conversations going on at the same time, like at a party. I only have it occasionally and it causes no distress at all. I have heard most cases are stressful. They are in, fact, sometimes pleasant, like once I had one that a musician a liked was talking to me and wasn't saying anything weird or anything. My mom said she sometimes has had the thing.

What is this is called, if it's not scary? I am worried now. I never experience them any time except just when I am falling asleep and they just like hypnogogic hallucinations, except for the frightening part of it.

I had these plus visual stuff. Turned out to be a very mild form of epilepsy (only needed meds for 2 years.) My dad and sister get them too. See a neurologist if you're worried, but I wouldn't be too troubled by them.

I'm used to seeing phosphenes. On rare occasions, they'll form clear images. Usually just swirly purple though. It sounds like your hallucinations are more vivid. One time I heard what sounded like Frog from Chrono Trigger croaking (I had earmuffs on at the time).

i have binges of not sleeping much for several days. During a really bad binge I hallucinated that my dog came in the room, spun around and wagged her tail at me. I spoke to her. Then she walked out of the room. I called her and she didn't come. Then I walked outside (the door was closed), and she was outside. It was an ordinary thing I hallucinated, but the fact that it happened was terrifying.

I got these a few times when I was under a lot of stress and living with a person I was afraid of. I would be falling asleep and all of the sudden I was paralyzed, couldn't move, felt like I was breathing through a straw, and I would see things - one was just a random girl standing next to my bed, not doing anything, not really scary but I felt scared anyway. Another time, the same physical feelings happened and I saw the housemate I was scared of come into my room and walk towards me threateningly. I tried to yell but I was still paralyzed and couldn't move.

Usually I can focus and snap myself out of the paralysis but it's still scary when it happens. I just chalked it up to Sleep Paralysis.

I don't believe they need to be distressing to be hallucinations in this sense.
I hear music falling asleep and waking up, which is one of the rarer ones, but I need them to sleep and wake up calmly, without that I usually have nightmares or a panic attack, so I think they're very nice. ^_^
I don't normally see things, mine are usually audible, and unless its a huge bang I'm not worried.
Sometimes I feel a buzzing sensation which is mildly annoying. Not sure if that's linked or not though.

If they don't bother you, see it as a nice blessing. ^^

Actually, they aren't visual at all, only auditory.

I have demons and gods shouting at me when I wake up, sometimes (I'm an atheist, btw). Occasionally it's music, which is nice.

It happened to me too. Some of the conversations going through my head were like a revelation (it happens usually after i'm reading a book) but i guess my brain was really tired. When i were in school i had the same issues - all the night i was 'dreaming' i was trying to solve math exercises.
I don't know what could be the cause for these. Some say it's because of stress and worrying/thinking too much. Could this be ADD, maybe?

I know this wasn't directed at me, but I hear music when falling asleep and waking up and I have to say it's the most beautiful music ever. I think people would love it. I deeply despise my poor memory and inability to write music when I hear it, if I'm honest. I wish it would stay with me long enough to at least hum it until I get to the keyboard, then I could play it out and work out the notes.
It's such a vast variety of music too.
The brain is a wonderful thing.

Yes, but I haven't written anything that came from the this state. Or maybe I have? I'm not entirely sure.

Like writing poetry, it's not a fully-conscious process for me.

I sometimes have the fleeting chaotic noises when I am falling asleep, but very rare. Sometimes when in bed I can have the sensation that my body had inflated like my arms are blown up like thick balloons. That is quite weird.

I've had all of this! My best was a school bus driving through my room.

It's extremely common and it doesn't have to be scary. It used to be scary for me but the experience changed. Just last night I heard a conversation in my left ear and only my left ear. I was so zoned out that I only remember the end of it. A woman said "I'll pick him up".
