Why? Why do I stim? What is my brains reason for it? I try to explain it to myself why the moment I am not doing something I instantly go into stim mode. Is my brain bored? It wants to think about something so it stims? I want to know! :)

I find myself doing the noisy stims when I'm in a good mood and the hand stuff when I'm nervous or impatient; whenever it would bring pain back upon me to tell someone to hurry up or shut up. For a lot of folks stimming is a pre-meltdown filter but I haven't experienced that

I think it's a way of getting sensory imput and having control over sensory imput. For example when I stim with my hands it seems to help my brain understand where my hands are.

I don't know the scientific reason for it, but all I know is that it feels good to do. :P

there are several reasons for feeling the need to stim. the three biggest reasons are negative emotions (anxiety, fear, anger, etc), overstimulation, and understimulation.

it's usually a defensive or regulatory mechanism enacted subconsciously.

Releasing the stress from social or other overload.

Because it feels good.

Helps you focus and enhances the pleasure of focussing.

Turns on your autistic world.

I don't know why I do it either. It might be a control thing and a comfort thing but I'm not 100% sure.

To relieve anxiety and stress.

It's a normal coping technique. Some people bite their lips, others twirl their hair... most people do some sort of it.

I have heard that too.
I think it has something to do with the repetition of the movement releases endorpihn in the brain that make you feel happy, r somehting like that...

I find that I feel more relaxed when I stim, so it sounds true...
