Quote:
TOKYO (Reuters) - Shares in Japan's Nintendo Co. Ltd. (7974.OS: Quote, Profile, Research) hit an all-time high on Wednesday on soaring expectations that its new game console, the Wii, could repeat the success of its hot-selling handheld machine, the DS.

Nintendo, known for game characters such as Mario, Donkey Kong and Pokemon, said it will ship almost 400,000 units of the Wii for its Japan launch on December 2, offering four times as many machines as Sony Corp. (6758.T: Quote, Profile, Research) did for its PlayStation 3 debut last week.

And to think, many people were predicting Nintendo would go out of business just a few years ago.

I always had faith my favorite gaming company would pull through in the end. Very Happy

It is going to be a merry christmas for Nintendo fans everywhere. Cool

Was considering buying some Nintendo stock.

They've sold more DS lite units than Gamecube
Wonder how the Wii will sell? Just a few more days to find out.

Don't you mean PS3? The PS2 came out in 2000 and is obsolete now.

I'll be a bit disappointed if the Wii does well. Not because I'd actually be getting one of the rival consoles anyway (they're too expensive atm) but just because I don't want to play games with the Wii's weird little control system. Maybe it's just something I'll just have to get used to.

Plus since even third party developers probably expected it to fail as well, there probably won't be much good third-party games for the Wii for a long time. From what I know most developers have been ignoring the Wii altogether, or giving it second priority.

Have you been living under a rock? Developers and consumers alike have caught Wii fever and are now abandoning the PS3 in favor of it.

But you don't have to take my word for it. Here's the proof:

Oh, well as far as I knew everyone thought it would flop until recently.

I won't be getting a Wii anytime soon anyway. I imagine after a year or so they might drop the price, which is when I'll probably nab one. Currently they're $400 here, which is more than they said it would be. I guess they figure they don't have to make the price so low if the competition is pricing their stuff so much higher.

Another thing I should mention is that there is a classic controller for the Wii for those who hate the new controller setup. It is used to play the older games, and I also heard some new games like Super Smash Bros. will make use of it.

So developers will have both options. But most people I've heard from love the new controller. I've yet to try it myself... :?
