Rating the Star Wars Movies
Inspired to me by an internet reviewer named Sploich I'm gonna rate some of my favourite movies starting with Star Wars with the highest rating being 10. Each even number has a meaining such as really loved it or didn't like it, but check out his website to find out what each number means. The odd numbers would imply a bit of both.
1) Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope (1977) 10
2) Star Wars Episode V The Empire Strikes Back (1980) 10
3) Star Wars Episode VI Return of the Jedi (1983) 10
4) Star Wars Episode I The Phantom Menace (1999) 5
5) Star Wars Episode II Attack of the Clones (2002) 5
6) Star Wars Episode III Revenge of the Sith (2005) 8
There may be some alterations mostly consisting of the prequels in the future.
Episode 1: Complete and utter s**t, one of the worst films of all time
Episode 2 Terrible dialogue, terrible 1 dimensional characters, terrible wooden acting, and full of "really? -_-" moments
Episode 3: Same as what I said about episode 2 only even worse.
Episode 4: Decent popcorn flick with some questionable dialogue and a stupid deux ex machina plot point (the exhaust pipe that destroyed the Death Star)
Episode 5: A good film marred by some questionable dialogue and some severe pacing issues early in the film.
Episode 6: Bad dialogue, bad subplot (They are building a second death star, only ret*d midget furries can stop a technologically advanced army with weapons that can destroy f*****g PLANETS ) other than that it was okay... But the unneeded Luke and Leia are siblings was just a pointless thing that seemed to be added on to give it a twist.
Also the only halfway decent films of the series (episodes 4, 5, and 6) Lucas had the least to do with! Lucas got sick during the making of 4 so the studio pretty much took over (even more than they already had been taking over) episode 5 was directed by Irvin Kershner, and 6 was by some guy who hasn't done anything but Star Wars.
Also how could anyone think a series with a film that Robert Christian (the guy that directed Battlefield Earth) co-directed (Phantom Menace) is a good series?
Sure I respect the imprint it had on modern culture, and I can see some redeeming values in the original trilogy (not the prequels though, those are just s**t) but as a whole they really aren't all that great and are greatly overrated.
Starwars Episode 1 The Phantom Menace: 1.5
Star Wars Episode 2 The Clone Wars: 2.5
Star Wars Episode 3 Revenge of The Sith: 3.0
Star Wars Episode 4: A New Hope:8.5
Star Wars Episode 5 The Empire Strikes Back: 9.0
Star Wars Episode 6 Return of the Jedi: 7.0
For me anything 6 and up is like a passing grade, I like a lot of movies I would rate a 6 if I had to be purely objective.
Episode 1 highlights: None, the droids looked cool and Quin-whatever was a neat character who got killed off.
Episode 2 highlights: Cool looking monsters during the arena fight, Christopher Lee is an automatic +1 to any movie ever.
Episode 3 highlights: Mellow dramatic, poorly acted garbage, but General Grievious is a cool side character who's design I liked a lot. This movie is atrocious and makes me sterile, BUT seeing Hayden Christensen legless, burning on the edge of a pool of lava is the most awesome, cathartic thing ever. I laughed so hard and who can forget "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooOOOOOOO!!"
It is for these two moments that Episode 3 is easily the best of the terrible prequels. Kind of like how having cancer is the best choice between leukemia and the bubonic plague.
Not going to bother rating them, I enjoyed them all, call me unrefined if you will.
I like the"filling out" of back stories/mythology of a universe etc sure they could have done a much better job but no matter who made them that would always be true unless some writer/director/producer managed to realise the full and truly awesome potential of star wars. Which would be roughly equivalent to inventing a working lightsaber, wouldn't you say?
I don't know, to each their own, but it seems a shame to not enjoy star wars in any incarnation.
Only a true Star Wars fan loves all 6 films.
1) Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope (1977) 10
2) Star Wars Episode V The Empire Strikes Back (1980) 10
3) Star Wars Episode VI Return of the Jedi (1983) 9.5 (amazing ending but has a few flaws)
4) Star Wars Episode I The Phantom Menace (1999) 8 (dissapointing compared to the others)
5) Star Wars Episode II Attack of the Clones (2002) 9.5
6) Star Wars Episode III Revenge of the Sith (2005) 10
Just for fun, I'll give marks out of 10 based on how I felt when they came out.
1) Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope (1977) 10. - I was 10 when it came out, and so it was the best thing ever. Ever.
2) Star Wars Episode V The Empire Strikes Back (1980) 0. - Yes, 0. I was 13 and no way was I going to watch that "kiddie" stuff.
3) Star Wars Episode VI Return of the Jedi (1983) 7.
4) Star Wars Episode I The Phantom Menace (1999) 7.
5) Star Wars Episode II Attack of the Clones (2002) 7.
6) Star Wars Episode III Revenge of the Sith (2005) 7. I, II and III benefitted from popcorn fuelled feelings of nostalgia.
If I scored them now, I guess they'd all be about 5 or 6.
Episode 1 - I found this film very annoying (0)
Episode 2 - This was a bit more interesting (5)
Episode 3 - I was dissapointed with the Darth Vader character (3)
Episode 4 - Exciting (8)
Episode 5 - I loved it (9)
Episode 6 - Good end to the saga (7)
I really can't help but feel the prequals were just unnecessary
They are great films
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
Nope.
Its not like 4,5, and 6 were amazing works of art (well..I think Empire Strikes Back kind of is) but the prequels are slightly watchable at best. I had some s**t taste when I was a young teenager but even I couldn't find anything to like about episode 1. 2, like I said above, has some cool moments and 3 is great just because of Christian Hayden's burning torso. Being purely objective, I think the prequels could be "bad" "decent" "almost acceptable".
I dunno man, if you personally love them then that's fine. I still enjoy Alien 3 and Resurection but can acknowledge they are the weak links in the Alien quadrilogy. I enjoy them but are they the superb films that Alien and its sequel Aliens are? Nope.

I have just about the same opinion as everyone else.
Phantom Menace- 5: Wooden acting, pointless addition of Jar-Jar, all that stuff.
Attack of the Clones - 5.5: The action sequences, eye-candy, plot line and just about everything else outdoes The Phantom Menace, but Hayden Christensen's performance completely f****d it up.
Revenge of the Sith - 7.5: Despite incredibly corny dialogue and more lousy acting, I thought it was appropriate and well done as a bridge between the two trilogies.
A New Hope- 8: It's awesome as pure entertainment.
Empire Strikes Back - 10: the darker tones and good production value somehow makes it more enjoyable to watch and more appreciable as a well made movie.
Return of the Jedi - 7: The ewoks were totally unnecessary and ruined whatever seriousness there was.
Sorry if this sounds really pretentious.

The originals are very much of their time, as a child of the 70's the Star Wars films will always be special to me.
Some 18 year old declaring them overrated 30+ years later is pretentious fuc*wittery of the highest order.

Well a true masterpiece has to be able to stand the test of time, sadly most of the Star Wars movies do not. I understand they have nostalgic value for you but there is no need to get mad at me because I'm looking at it from the standpoint as these are movie, are they good?

I'm not even that old but agree with you 100%, they were big leap forwards for cinema too at the time they came out.
