For me, it's this one right here:

It was just choc full of ADVENTURE, if you know what I mean. Those rolling expanses in the world map, so much to explore. Those really cheesy yet lovable characters, even if they do just look like they came from Dragon-Ball and are looking for their way back to the correct series.

I played animal crossing on the GameCube every day for more than a year  And loved every minute of it. I don't think that it would be anywhere near as fun now though...

The original MySims game (and its first sequel, MySims Kingdom) for the Wii weren't exactly deep or innovative, but I loved the simplicity of them - gather materials, build houses and furniture. I also thought that the anime-style characters were very cute. My favorites were Goth Boy and Yuki. :)

Oh god, you took the words right out of my mouth.

I guess another one I got when I was 12 qualifies too.

Too many timed missions, but a very good game otherwise with a decent story.

This game:

Absolutely gorgeous, some of the best music ever to grace a video game ever and I really enjoyed the multiple plot lines. The problem is that the game itself is pretty unintuitive, crafting makes zero sense and every boss and encounter can be beaten with physical attacks. Fights lack the strategy of Secret of Mana and Seiken Densetsu 3,even on higher difficulties its just a matter of crafting higher quality weapons. I just love the level of customization though, you can name your weapons, spells, armor and you get the coolest pets ever! Baby dragons, little marlboros, sahaigans, succubi, zombies..I could go on and on. And the game has the most eccentric cast of characters ever in a square soft game.

There was lots to rag on this game for though. Many were expecting a "proper" secret of mana and the multiple story lines bothers people. There's no core plot, yeah there is a last boss you can beat to activate new ame+ but she is very detached from the story and to me the final level just feels like an excuse to put a reset button. You beat story sections and get rewarded with artifacts you place on the world map that either unlock the next dungeon or town with more story events and characters and each artifact has its own elemental properties that influences adjacent areas. Like, for example an artifact you place next to a certain town might be Wisp (light)+4. Well, each location you place on the map has its own innate elemental properties and I recall that by placing other artifacts next to them you could unlock certain events or for dungeons you could influence treasure or monsters that appear.

Legend of Mana was Squaresoft's most creative title ever. It was also the last "good" Mana game too, for me, even if lots of people hate it. I can't deny its multiple flaws but still loved it.

For me it's these games:

I absolutely LOVE Yakuza 3 and 4! Both games have an amazing story with a great cast of characters and there's a lot of fun stuff to do in the games like beat up thugs, play mini games, eat in restaurants, etc. Plus the games are all about Japanese culture and Japan is one of my favorite countries.

The reason these games don't do so well outside Japan is because the graphics feel a little dated to some people and because the games are mostly spoken in Japanese with English subtitles (which I personally perfer it that way but a lot of people don't). Also there was a lot of negative critisism when Sega released Yakuza 3 outside Japan and left out the hostess clubs and some mini games because they didn't have enough time to translate it all and felt they would be "too Japanese" for American and European gamers.

I forgot to mention Parasite Eve 1 and 2! Those games really had a lukewarm reception and played like a turn based resident evil with spells and upgradeable weapons, the cutscenes were the best too! I also liked Aya Brea a whole lot, an actual cool female lead character who kicks ass but is pretty too :P. i pretend third birthday doesn't exist.

I really enjoyed Enter the Matrix, despite how bad it supposedly was.

The only one I can think of currently is a Bug's Life (PS1 version). The gameplay wasn't innovative, and I only found out recently reviewers actually hated it (then again, I have yet to see a video game based on a movie get good video gaming scores), but I just loved the soundtrack so much that I had to keep playing it over and over (sometimes even well after I got 100% completion  )

Trevor Mcfur in the Cresent Galaxy for the dead but not forgotten Atari Jaguar. The game was basically a rip off of an R-Type or Gradius style side scroll shooter. The title screen and level selection screen had music but during gameplay there was none. The enemies were odd and the bosses cheesy but the game was fun.

On the subject of top-down shooters, which I was never a big fan of (because I sucked horribly), Task Force Harrier was always a favorite. Its very mediocre but the music was pretty catchy and I thought it was cool when I was little..
