Hey, all. Greetings from South Korea. I teach English here.

Lemme start by answering the little questionnaire sticky from above.

What is your first name?
Tim (I'm NOT making a Holy Grail joke. I'm NOT making a Holy Grail joke. I'm NOT making a Holy Grail joke.)

Age: ......32 (34)

Location: South Korea

Hobbies and Interests: Oh, God; this again. Um, Philosophy, Technology, Movies, Games, Art, ect.

Why are you here?
Wow, straight to the Philosophy, huh? Alright, I'm here because I'm pretty sure I have Asperger's. The description fits and I took a recommended online test that says I'm BOTH an Aspie AND Neurotypical.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder):
Not yet, but I'm getting tested when I move back home to the states.

Favorite subjects: Didn't we go over this already?

Year/Grade:

Favorite music:
Not many of the songs on my Favorites playlist are by the same artists, but I do like me some Depeche Mode, Billy Joel, Weird Al, Imogen Heap, The Bloodhound Gang, MIA, Raidohead, System of a Down, Tool, Ocho (He's a folk singer friend of mine, but he's brilliant), and I've recently gotten into Queen. My current favorite song is "Now We Are Free" from "The Gladiator".

Books:
Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, I-Robot, Altered Carbon, The Tao of Pooh

TV shows:
Burn Notice, The Big Bang Theory, True Blood, Mystery Science Theater 3000, Real Time with Bill Maher, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report

Movies:
The Shawshank Redemption, American Beauty, The Butterfly Effect

Instrument:

Do you like sports?
Not really. I watch a little baseball here and there, but I'm not super into it.

Family:
I have an older sister and a younger sister.

Clothing:
I'm going to need you to be more vague.

How did you find this website?
The Oracle of the Delphi, what do you think? I found it on Google. Where else?

Job:
English Teacher

Plans for the future?
World Domina.....I mean, I'm gonna finish this year in Korea and then go back home and study Digital Design and Computer animation like I should have done in the first place.

Any comments?
Right. Now that I've got that out of the way, as I said, I'm here because I'm pretty sure I have Asperger's. I also have ADD, or maybe I just have Asperger's that was misdiagnosed as ADD or maybe I just have ADD, but as I said, the description of Asperger's fits me pretty well, though not perfectly. It's the social skills that're really killing me. That's what I want help with. Can someone point me to a book I can use in lieu or counseling/coaching until I get home to the states? I mean, I have friends back home and I have acquaintances here in Korea, but I still have problems letting my personality show. I think I'm actually a funny, clever, interesting person, but when I get around more people than I can count on one hand, I clam up and go into what I call "TV Mode". Y'know how, when you're watching TV, there' no linear thought going on in your head? You're just taking in the sites and sounds? That's how I get when I'm around too many people. I just sit there watching and listening to everyone like it's all happening on TV. All the sudden I don't have much of a reaction to or opinion about anything. it's not that I think of things to say and don't say them; I just don't think of anything to say, 'cause my brain's on auto-pilot.

SO, now that I've unloaded all of THAT on you after we've just met, who ELSE wants to over-share about THEIR personal issues?

Hi Wurmwood! Welcome to Wrong Planet! Check out the many different forums here. You are among friends here at WP! :D

I don't think it's possible to have one favorite book. Either you are into reading, and like a number of books, or you are not into books, are an ignorant moron, and need to have "book" carefully, and slowly explained to you, and the explanation needs to include a picture of a book. See example: :study:

I value people's opinion's here more highly than out in the "real world". I've heard of that book... maybe I should look into it more...

And welcome to you, Wurmwood!

Thanks everyone. It's good to be amongst friends. ^_^

Senath:
I highly recommend the book if you're into philosophy. It's a good story (that starts in my home state of Minnesota) and it goes into a lot of different areas. It's a lot to digest, but it's very thought-provoking and insightful. I'll give you what is probably my favorite quote: "The real cycle you're working on is a cycle called yourself. The Machine that appears to be 'out there' and the person that appears to be 'in here' are not two separate things. They grow toward Quality or fall away from Quality together."
