I was just now looking for a barette and found:
1. a drill bit that I picked up off the ground
2. a drum key
3. a bunch of 8mm copper jump rings
4. a double-pointed knitting needle
Never found the barette.

In my pocket right now there is 3 cat treats, a dog poop bag, a plaster wrapper and a piece of fluorescent yellow string.
All of them I know why they are there, except for the string....

My handbag is like a bottomless pit of horror.

The odder items it contains at the moment include part of a camera charger, a receptacle for a urine sample (unused!), a postcard of some giant cooling towers in the North of England and some cotton buds that have got loose. I really need to tidy it out.

In my bag there's lots of bits of paper with notes on and amongst other things a torch and a teabag.

I had a teabag in my purse so long that it came apart and the tea went everywhere.

Umm I'm pretty sure I've had a similar experience with a teabag at one point.

I've been resorting to smaller and smaller handbags to try to prevent carrying too much odd stuff. It sorta works.

Currently the contents of my bag are pretty normal, though I am carrying a 16Gb tiny flash drive (I still can't quite believe how small storage devices with oodles of memory are...)

I also have a tiny kite 'a pocket kite' in my jacket pocket. Had it several years, still haven't got round to trying it yet, but it's comforting to have it there ready. Though on windy days I always seem to forget I have it...

In my backpack, it's probably odd that I'm carrying around an android tablet and pens that I don't really need to have with me. I like spinning them and playing with the Pikachu charms.

Ha ha ha ha ha! I  this thread so much.

Right now, I have the old, burned-out thermal fuse from my dryer that I had to replace. I also have progesterone cream, a deck of playing cards, and an Epi-pen.

ETA: Oh! And a piece of sea glass and a pretty shell!

Most unusual things currently in my handbag...
A big clear marble.
A plastic magic wand.
A lump of rose quarts.
Heart-shaped buttons.
Small fertility penis charms.
A piece of paper saying "Perfer et obdura; dolor hic tibi proderit olim".
A pack of Big Red gum that's making my bag smell of cinnamon.
...all fairly standard in my handbag.

There's nothing odd in my handbag at the moment, as I've just cleared out the rubbish. I just threw out some old bus tickets and some squished chocolate/coconut bars. When my daughter was a little younger, it used to be filled with things she'd picked up and insisted that I kept safe for her, e.g. snail shells, stones and flowers. Fairly often, I still have a few wilted daisies and dandelions.

About 3 different guitar picks, my puffer, a random paper on freedom of speech I forgot to take out, a bar of surfboard wax, a laminated card for my special order at Boost so they can't f*ck it up, god only knows how many hair ties, chapstick, the latest Chomsky book (making the future), homemade cookies, a cord for my amp, a spare lens for a camera, sunglasses, ipod, earplugs, USB and a book on bio-energy fuels, genetics, stem cell research and replication, robots, other assorted geeky science stuff.

Wow, I really am a freak.

Two diaries (I'm still carrying 2011 around just in case)
One complete hair slide
One part hair slide
One asthma puffer, out of date
One asthma puffer, in date
180 dihydrocodeine tablets (not a habit, I picked up my prescription three days ago but haven't got round to removing the tablets yet)
One lip salve
Seven shop receipts
One bottle of Factor 50+ sun lotion (there's optimistic)
One part-used foil of throat pastilles (more realistic)
Three 'meal deal' vouchers for Boots
17 pens
One Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure, showing I have no convictions recorded
Two packs of tissues
One umbrella
Three foldaway nylon shopping bags
One pair of sunglasses, lightly tinted (for wearing indoors under fluorescent lights)
One small fold-up mirror (cracked)
One nice beach pebble
One hairbrush
Correction, THREE packs of tissues
One large coat button
One small metal contraption, the use or application for which I know not
One special pen for writing on CDs and DVDs
One comb, carried a friend who always forgot hers (who left the company 18 months ago)
One nozzle from an aerosol spray
One crumpled set of driving directions to somewhere I decided not to go

The weirdest, probably a thin wooden "coin", size of a silver dollar which has the words: "hungry bear restaurant and lounge no takeouts", on one side, and the other side says "good for one cup of coffee". I think it belonged to my late mother who was somewhat of a hoarder.

I also have about 8 lbs of other stuff, from a tow strap for a vehicle, about a dozen pens and paint brushes, large sketchbook, to a flashlight to tea bags in foil packets, etc.
