Hi everybody, I'm 40 and female,so never knew I was an aspie until this year. I knew I wasn't "normal" just didn't have a diagnosis back then so I spent hideous years misdiagnosed,in psych treatment, being bullied at school and having school tell my mother if I would try to be normal I wouldn't be such a target, etc. anybody else here been through this sort of thing? I have a 3 year old soon who is showing signs of AS,too. That's sort of how I started reading about it and found out that was my situation too.So I finally realized I am not a chronic screw-up I just have Asperger's. In some ways this has been a great relief and in other ways I have alot of sorrow over the past, but I know that can't be changed and I try not to get all hung up on it. Anyway this is me,nice to meet you all!

Welcome to Werbert's Planet, snapdragon.

You must post constantly or I will go insane like I did the last time poeple stopped posting. Never psot. Psoting is the opposite of posting. Spam! I think that's everything you need to know.

Hi Snapdragon and welcome to WP.
I'm in my 40s so 'Snap!' I only found out this year as well that there was such a thing
as AS. At school a psychologist simply classed me as being very shy and awkward so it
never occured to me there might actually be a 'syndrome' to explain it.

I'm so old ( 58 ) that we didn't even HAVE school psychologists! I was lucky in some ways. I was smart and never caused trouble, so everybody, including the other kids, just ignored me. I didn't have any friends, but I wasn't bullied, or hardly any. Just very lonely.

I know what you mean about discovering AS. It's kind of a relief, but in the end, it doesn't really change much. We're still considered weird and ostracized, but now we have a convenient label. Still, I'm glad I found out about it.

I'm glad I finally got up the nerve to join this forum and start reaching out to the aspie community. It's also been quite a great relief for my mother to have a "syndrome" to explain things after so many years of shrinks telling her she was messing me all up and stuff.

Hiya Snapdragon (cool name)

I've gotten a lot of relief knowing about asperger's. It greatly cut down on the regret I've lived most of my life with. The problems weren't what I did, they were what I was, and it really couldn't have been much different no matter what I had done. Most of the time anyway.

So welcome.

Well thank you buddy for your advice...

Hi Snapdragon, welcome to WP.

I'm in my late 40's and have only known about Asperger's for a couple of years. It's a relief to know isn't it? This site has helped me a lot, to understand about it.

Hope you enjoy it here. :)

I think I will like it here. nice to know there are people who can understand. On one hand I was relieved to find out but also felt really sad for a while that I was not ever gonna get myself "together" and become magically NT. But as I find NT people boring as hell I think I'll be ok.
