Every couple of months I go to the salon for highlights and hair cut. I do this because I am a professional and want to blend in with my colleagues at the office. I despise it. I hate the uncomfortable small talk I have to make with the stylist, then feel awful when I go quiet and there's that awkward silence. When my stylist gives up on talking to me and starts talking to others in the salon I get annoyed because I feel like an outcast. Then comes the worst part, the shampoo. I hate having someone shampoo my head, and since I go to the more upscale salons the shampoo comes with a lengthy head massage which is supposed to be so relaxing but makes me want to scream. Finally after the whole thing's done and it's time to give the tip, I get so uncomfortable because I obsess about whether I'm giving too little or too much, do I tip shampoo girl and stylist separately or together, how much each, cash or credit card, blah blah blah. And it seems like I never get the style I actually want.

Honestly, I rate going for my yearly pap smear a better experience than going to the salon, because at least it doesn't take as long. Anyone else have anxiety at the salon?

If I only go for the haircut and brow wax, I'm ok. I used to get highlights etc and it just took too long.

I really like getting my brow waxed though. My stylists are always surprised by my... lack of reaction. I dunno. I'm all red afterwards, but man I love it when she pulls those off. I keep a stoney face cause I know a big grin would freak them the **** out. If they have to pluck any afterwards I HATE that. I started getting them waxed so I wouldn't need to pluck so I hate the plucking on so many levels.

I hate getting my hair cut with a vengeance.

It's always the shampoo and conditioning that bothers me because they always give me a massage when they do it. I cannot handle massages, they hurt so much that I start crying without even realizing it. This always freaks the woman out. Even when they try and be gentle, it still hurts.

I have to go to the hairdresser in the next week or 2 and I'm putting it off as long as possible.

I go to the hairdressers approximately once every 6 months.

I despise every minute of it.

I hate it and usually do my hair myself, when possible. If I go to someone else (even my stepmother who is a stylist), I almost always end up with something I don't like. I guess I just never articulate what I want clearly enough.... I have recently started going to the nail shop and found that if I immediately tell them that something is not exactly what I want and/or try to physically show them, I get more acceptable results. I get a lot of "I know what I'm doing" responses from them but oh well...

I go to my boyfriends barber... He does all the haircuts for the local military base. Ten minutes, a blunt cut and $20 later ($12 for the cut the rest is tip) I'm done. My hair is all one length, goes down to the middle of my back, always in a ponytail. Simple.

No waiting for an appointment, No BS with the "stylist", no rewashing my hair even though I showed up to the place with still-wet-from-washing clean hair, no loud irritating hairdryers, no "product" on my head after expressly asking them not to. No giving me bangs because they thought it looked better than what I wanted, no idle chit chat...

I suggest going to a barber if you don't like haircuts and your style is simple.

I wish I could find someone in my city that can do eyebrow threading..... Waxing kills me and leaves me looking like a weird red branded raccoon for days and doing it myself is a danger to my vision with my manual dexterity deficits.. I can do it, it just takes me awhile.

Oh my god, yes. I hate the whole idea of a salon.... who died and made these beauticians Oprah? :/

I really hate when they ask what I do. I have to say I'm disabled. Then they ask why -.-

Next time someone asks, I will say I'm the one who changes the lightbulbs in the local MRI machines. Take that.

I absolutely cannot stand it, but I do it because I have to look professional. I hate the shampoo, the touching, the mindless chatter, the noise and crap around me, everything. Fortunately (?) I'm allergic to most commercial hair color, so I have to do that myself at home (most salons don't carry the natural stuff).

Ugh.

I hate the mindless chit chat.

When I was young I had screaming fit when people washed my hair, I think it was water going over my face I hated, but I'm ok with hairwashing now as long as I'm leaning backwards.

I have long hair that doesn't need cutting often, (stays in a pony tail).

I've found a hairdresser who knows I don't like small talk and doesn't mind me being silent. Unfortunateley he's over 300 miles away near my parents so I visit him occasionally, and my hair is cut about once every 2 years.

I pluck my own eyebrows, works ok enough.

edited for typo

I pretty much never go to the hairdresser but I did get my hair trimmed once this year. I usually don't even do that.

I think I found a trustworthy hairdresser to trim my hair though. When I was younger it seemed like they always took off more than I wanted them to. This one followed my guidelines and commented to my mother "if I cut off more she'll kill me". That the kind of thinking I want my hairdresser to have. My hair is down to my waist.

I hate how expensive they are.

I go to get a trim, no shampoo, and they charge as much as a pair of shoes.

Definetely yes. I hate sitting their, feeling all the stuff going on with my hair and the smalltalk... please just shut up. Luckily my bf's mom can do it once in a while- just cutting off dead hair and leaving the rest the way it is and how I like it.

I'm going to be the oddball here and say that I love going to the salon! Even though I always complain about my hair, it feels nice when the hair dresser washes my hair and compliments my curliness as she's drying my hair. The feeling of my hair being cut with the scissors feels so good to me. And when she finally finishes putting the seemingly endless number of hqir products in my hair, the products they use on my hair make my curls all nice. I step out of the salon feeling fresh! 8)

I just deal with it. I like it when my mom or my sister messes with my hair, because they're both gentle and know the right places to handle. The people at the salon just have to pull out every single strand. Salon or not, they always complain about how thick my hair is. It's REALLY thick, thicker than one could imagine.

I used to have screaming fits too, and had to take baths instead of showers because the spray hitting my head makes my spine tingle unbearably. I like the scalp massage but I can't stand the water spraying on top of my head. It's all I can do to sit still and not flail around. I just answer the chatty questions as briefly as I can and sit quietly and people-watch.

Luckily, at my job nobody sees me. I don't have to fiddle with expensive highlights and "product" and junk like that.

gh. I hate it so very much. The noise, the nonsense babbling, the smells. Forget it. I finally gave in and stopped coloring my hair. It was taking too long and I had to go too often. Now I just go twice a year for a good trim. I keep my hair all one length and always in a pony tail because I hate it so much. The only thing worse is the dentist!
