Hello. I'm new to these boards.
My partner and I are looking for some professional help dealing with some of the challenges in our relationship that are unique to Aspie-NT couples (or if not totally unique, perhaps more pronounced with that configuration). So far, we're mostly finding professionals who deal with children and adolescents.

We tried a counselor who claimed vast experience with people on the spectrum, including couples, but it was disastrous, truly doing more harm than good. We've called it quits with him.
We're thinking of the usual psychologist/counselor/social worker, specializing in Aspergers, but we're open to other professionals, as well. Especially those that can offer very concrete steps to take (not just chit-chat), coaching or skill-building for both of us, etc. We just want to make this work while honoring our differences, too.

Anyone in NYC or northern NJ who has had a good experience with an excellent professional with regard to enhancing social and communication skills, we'd be grateful if you'd send a private message with a name of someone. If you care to share anything specific you liked about them, that'd be great, too.
Thanks for your help.

I have a feeling I know who the disastrous person was. :)
Try Lynda Geller at Banks Street School of Education. If she can't help you, she might know someone who can. I might be spelling her name incorrectly, btw.

Thanks for trying to help, Lemert.
Funny thing is, the disastrous person we saw was part of Geller's group practice in NYC. We had an eval with Geller, which was OK, but we were less-then-impressed with her "professionalism" for a couple of reasons. So it's doubtful we'd return there unless we were truly desperate.
But really, thank you for taking time to offer a suggestion--it's proving to be a lot of work finding someone to meet our needs, so having others in our corner is a plus.

Ha! That's so funny! (I mean like odd funny, not humor funny, not sure what word I actually want.)

I do hope you find someone, and if you do, please PM me because I am in the same area and looking for help as well! I don't have a spouse, but I am looking for someone who specializes in helping adults who were just diagnosed and who also have serious issues with depression.
