For several years, one problem that I have had is difficulty going to the washroom (number 2) unless I'm home alone. Even when my parents are home, I always had the difficulty to go unless I my parents thought I was going to take a shower (such as I would go before taking the shower and flush the toilet after turning on the shower). I find it even harder to do number 2 in public washrooms (which I have almost never done before) where I assume the only way I could go successfully is to make sure I went in complete secrecy. I'll be heading off to university later this fall so it'll be a problem I have to resolve. I've had the problem gradually develop ever since I was old enough to be trusted to be home alone (since age 13) when my brain seems to have gradually became used to the freedom to go to the bathroom when no one notices, such that it prevents you from making any bowel movements with anyone realizing that you went. This is obviously a psychological factor, but I wonder if anyone by any chance knows any other people with Asperger's with a similar problem, and is this issue more common to people with AS because their brain varies from NT people?

Ive always had problem going in public ONE and TWO. As a kid i would force myself not to go as much as i could . I would only go Once a Week. Nobody told me that i was suppose to go every day which i figured that i was but since my body gave me an option of going or not going . and since nobody told me i figured i would go once a week.. Later on in life as i got a job and i started trying to become more healthier , i had no choice but to overcome it . So i just do it and usually sit and wait for every one to leave the bathroom . And try to not think about the germs on the sit and who has sat there before me .. i always use toilet paper x3 to cover the seat to .. and then its all over like a roller coaster ride that i've been waiting in line scared to go but once i got off the ride i felt a lot better and could go on about my day . Also I still do everything in my power to avoid bathroom trips though. I probable always will .

Its a common problem amongst NTs, probably similar proportion of people as in the Aspie World.
Most annoying for me is when you're on the wc in an office or mall, and some person comes in just to admire themself in the mirror, scrunch up a few paper towels, use the sink. And they are SO SLOW about it. Then they keep coming in and disappearing again.
One of the veteran stand up comics in UK, Ben Elton, did a routine about annoying toilet intruders. He called them "frequent fliers".

Not really. I figure someone who'd be bothered by someone else's digestive system (offensive odors and gratuitous noises aside, naturally...) isn't very mature, themselves.

That reminds me of a scene in the movie American Pie, where this guy runs into the girls bathroom by mistake and starts having a noisy bowel movement. Some girls enter and are talking and when the noises start they all run away in disgust.

The Ben Elton public toilets thing is on youtube, under the title
Skillbys Vids - Ben Elton live (part 08 )
It covers just about the same anxieties expressed in this thread.

I'm not even kidding, there's a phenomenon called "bathroom stall shyness." I do not experience this, but many people (NTs included) do.

Such things are common... why d'you think they sell laxatives over the counter?

I've never had any digestive problems...
