I have been told by a few different females that I talk to regularly that I am cute. Wouldn't I want to be manly? haha.

I would love to be cute! Manly is not really a common phrase or compliment.. I think cute is a compliment. Manly=Jock=Jerk in many women's view it seems. could be wrong.

Maybe we need the ladies to make a list of their compliments and insults for guys along with a translation for AS folks of what it really means literally

Think it would depend on the woman.^
Sometimes, "cute" is used to denote someone isn't attractive in a sexual way, IE, "hot".
I've seen this "nice letdown" used for both sexes (once on me, on a first date 8O).

However,
I personally use it to describe someone who does or says something endearing.
I call my mom "cute" when she does something amusing (I also call her "dollface" and "gorgeous", cause it makes her feel good, and it's easy to do),
and my boyfriend's quirkiness strikes me as "cute"/"adorable".

It all just depends.

The thing with being cute is, when you're cute that's all you are.

I've been told I was cute. And exactly - if you hear that from a woman, it's rarely because she's interested.
It could be expressed with equal ease as "[generic compliment; do not consider a potential partner]".

I've been told that. That's the most common thing I've been told on dating websites. *Shrug* I think it's more of an innocence thing than appearance, in most cases.

That's a good thing. It's a brush-off command in the best case, and a suggestion of moving into the friendzone in the worst.

Cause a woman wanting you to be her friend is like so terrible.

I disagree. "Cute" is one of the few terms of endearment I would ever use, it would be intended as a serious compliment, and I would never use it to someone in the friendzone. So apparently it varies depending on who's saying it!

ETA: To me "handsome" or "pretty" would be more neutral terms that I would use to describe someone to whom I felt no attraction.

i think you're cute in that... you're attractive, but youthful. it's not a brush-off unless it is phrased like, "you are cute BUT i am not really interested."

some apparently sexy guys have cute looking faces (Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio, Justin Timberlake, James McAvoy, etc.) another word for it is "boyish good looks". just learn to work it.

The only time I use "cute" is for someone I am interested in. To me, cute > hot as cute denotes personality rather than just a porn star quality body. I am more attracted to a good personality than a perfect body (although it doesn't hurt...).

Cute is a term of endearment towards something that is playful but you need to watch how it is being said. I would say throw a bait or hook and see if they respond to it, they might be hinting towards wanting something more.

Oh that isn't an option  Not saying I am too shy, but who I was talking about it just is not going to happen.

Definitely. Cute is way hotter than hot :D
