We should vote on a song that is representative of the struggles of those with AS.

My nomination is "If I Ever Leave This World Alive" by Flogging Molly.

This is the best link I could find to hear the whole thing for free, but you have to download Rhapsody, which my McAffee advisor says is fine.

http://play.rhapsody.com/floggingmolly/ ... ounce=true

So nominate your own, then we can vote. Of course, it won't be technically the "official official" song of AS, as there can't really be an official song.

I nominate "Alien" by Atlanta Rhythm Section.

The sun just went behind a cloud again
Down crowded streets he walks alone
He's a stranger out of place
A number not a face
All day long, he's all alone

He's feeling like an alien
Feeling like he don't belong
Have mercy cried the alien
Help him find his way back home

The feelings that he feels, he can't explain
Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, they're all the same
He's lost and all alone, A heart without a home
Standing like a statue, in the rain

He's feeling like an alien
Feeling like he don't belong
Have mercy cried the alien
Help him find his way back home

Now and then we all are aliens
feeling like we don't belong
Have mercy cried the alien
Help him find his way back home

Dj tiesto - adagio for strings.
Has classical elements to say that we've made our impact and has electronical elements to show that we're wizzes on the computer and we will make our impact in the future, and its an electronica tune because the number of aspie dj's and music producers is rising rapidly

good point solid. it's a much more optimistic take than flogging molly too. hey everybody--try to find links to the songs or at least to 30 second samples and put them in your post unless your nom. is a really popular song that everyone's heard. and lyrics if you can.

here's the Flogging Molly lyrics

"If I Ever Leave This World Alive"

If I ever leave this world alive
I'll thank for all the things you did in my life
If I ever leave this world alive
I'll come back down and sit beside your
feet tonight
Wherever I am you'll always be
More than just a memory
If I ever leave this world alive

If I ever leave this world alive
I'll take on all the sadness
That I left behind
If I ever leave this world alive
The madness that you feel will soon subside
So in a word don't shed a tear
I'll be here when it all gets weird
If I ever leave this world alive

So when in doubt just call my name
Just before you go insane
If I ever leave this world
Hey I may never leave this world
But if I ever leave this world alive

She says I'm okay; I'm alright,
Though you have gone from my life
You said that it would,
Now everything should be all right

She says I'm okay; I'm alright,
Though you have gone from my life
You said that it would,
Now everything should be all right
Yeah should be alright

I like Flogging Molly because I think of Aspie's as run-down swashbuckling ex-pirate gypsies with a soft side and a creepy way with the fiddle. But ah.

anything by Backstreet Boys. they really are an inspiration..each lyric so thoughtful...maybe a time they have made me see how I'm *not* alone in this crazy, mixed up world.

willow i know how you feel. and they are *so* not gay. not like that would matter, but guys are just jealous of how talented they are, don't you think? i cry when i hear any of their songs, and then i throw up just a little in my mouth and swallow it.

I have highlighted in bold the words that conjure images of Einstien, Newton, Edison, etc. etc.

John Mayer - Bigger Than My Body

This is a call to a colorblind
This is an IOU
I’m stranded behind the horizon line
Tied up in something true

Yes I'm grounded
I got my wings clipped
I'm surrounded by all this pavement
Guess I'll circle
While I'm waiting for my fuse to dry

Someday I'll fly
Someday I'll soar
Someday I'll be so damn much more
'Cause I'm bigger than my body gives me credit for

Why is it not the time?
What is there more to learn?
Shed this skin I've been tripping in
And I've never quite returned

Yes I'm grounded
I got my wings clipped
I'm surrounded by all this pavement
Guess I'll circle
While I'm waiting for my fuse to dry

Someday I'll fly
Someday I'll soar
Someday I'll be so damn much more
'Cause I'm bigger than my body gives me credit for
'Cause I'm bigger than my body now

Maybe I'll tangle in a power lines
And it might be over in a second’s time
But I'll gladly go down in a flame
If the flame's what it takes to remember my name
To remember my name now

Yes I'm grounded
I got my wings clipped
I'm surrounded by all this pavement
Guess I'll circle
While I'm waiting for my fuse to dry
waiting for my fuse to dry

Someday I'll fly
Someday I'll soar
Someday I'll be so damn much more
'Cause I'm bigger than my body
Bigger than my body
Bigger than my body now

* * *

This part right here is what did it for me:

But I'll gladly go down in a flame
If the flame's what it takes to remember my name
To remember my name now

The point is, all great men are very individual men. Or were at the very beginning. They all had time alone to themselves, and great minds to back them up.

Quote:
The strongest man in the world is he who stands alone.

- Henrik Ibsen

Now if that's not inspirational, I don't know what is. If someone with AS works at their abilities hard enough, and has enough patience, then someday that person will be 'so much damn more.' ... if they can get past the emotional darkness and all that. :?

i nominate: basket case by Green Day

"do you have the time
to listen to me whine
about everything
and nothing all at once

i am one of those
melodramatic fools
nirodic to the bone
no doubt about it

sometimes i give myself the creeps
sometimes my mind plays tricks on me
it all keeps adding up
i think i'm cracking up
am i just paranoid
or am i just dumb?"

from there on it gets a little... innapropiate, but those few verses say alot...
