I was totally blown away at the lines outside my small town southern Chick-fil-a. There was more people there than the grocery store and every other resturaunt in town combined. They were buying a sandwich, not because they all loved chick-fil-a that much but because the CEO was cornered into taking a stance on gay marriage so he expressed his personal beliefs in the aired interview.
I did not find what he said that offensive and he does have a right to express his views. However the reaction of the public is really disturbing.
Millions of people flocked to Chick-fil-a wednesday to show off their homophobia which is rather disgusting since we have 1-4 children in the US are hungry...and people go into troves to stuff their face to show off their hate.
Imagine if that many people could be moblized for a real threat like hunger in the US.

Are people getting more selfish and meaner in the US??

Any high-profile debate will polarize opinions. People will become more extreme just because their beliefs are being challenged.

I think people are all being very silly, what the owners think about things has sod all to do with the restaurant and its food, I pity the shop employees that have been dragged into this. The sandwiches they serve taste no better or no worse now the owners gave their (rather ridiculous) views on gay marriage.

I personally think people should be allowed to marry their favourite chair if they so wished, but if there was a chick-fil-a near me and I liked their food, then so what gimme food!

The people eating there were also protesting the remarks by the mayors of Chicago and Boston. When you have public officials that state your business is not welcome due to your beliefs, it causes some people to get counter protest. What I haven't seen called for is a boycott of Boston and Chicago in response.

I love the food there. I would always eat there and bring my kids even thought I knew what the stance of the company and the president was. Now I am boycotting. Not bevcause of their opinion, but because of the money they donate to certain organizations.

I would not buy a sandwich from someone who was going to then turn around and donate that money to an organization that was trying to, I dunno, remove a womans right to vote, would I? So I won't buy a sandwich from chick-fil-a.

I find that kind of reaction disturbing, too. When I was twenty-seven and twenty-eight, I remember being surprised in a very negative way at how many of my fellow citizens supported the first Persian Gulf War, 1991 (build-up of Desert Shield in 1990). And not as an opportunity to do something positive for people in that part of the world, but more like as an opportunity to kick somebody's, anybody's ass. It was misplaced "toughness."

There is a humorous story.

In 2009, I often attended a board game group. One of our players was a young man who was devoutly Christian (sometimes wore Christian T-shirts). He worked at a Chick Fil A on Houston's south side. I made a casual comment, Oh, maybe you can move up in management. He said he probably wouldn't be interested, because this Chick Fil A had mandatory meetings for managers early on some Sunday mornings (!) (!) (!)

Except, that a few pennies from every sandwich that a person buys goes into the pocket of those owners, and those owners then turn around and donate some of that money to anti same-sex marriage organizations.

If this was a politically neutral exercise in buying a chicken sandwich, all well and good. But when part of my money is moving in a direct line to causes that I disagree with, I will choose to vote with my wallet.

I think the folks at chicken filet came up with a new fast food recipe- Make a statement that half the people find controversial and the other half come flocking to your door. People are just conditioned to see everything as 'us vs. them'. Sports, politics, music, and now chicken.

The Chick Fil A that's closest to us is in Boise, Idaho. That figures. Seattle is too progressive and forward thinking a city to be bothered by ass backwards religious crap like Chick Fil a and their ilk. A store like that would die a painful miserable death. Anything associated with the de-progression of mankind is unwanted in a state where software, airplane and electronic giants abound. Suck us back to the Dark Ages? I don't think so.

People are just being silly. I mean, who cares what the CEO or anyone who works at Chil-fil-a thinks?

That's just what I think whenever I hear people arguing or protesting over something stupid. Why can't people concentrate and mobilize for on real problems?

I love Chik-Fil-A! I practically lived off it in 2002 and 2003. Had it everyday when I was at college. Their chicken nuggets are awesome! From 07-09 I'd eat there once a week. And before someone freaks out, their 8 piece nuggets are 260 calories and are made from whole chicken. Not saying they're super healthy. They are still fried ya know. But I felt like I needed to say it.

Now, with that said, I believe gay couples should have the same rights as everyone else. I also believe that the CEO has a right to his own opinion. I just wished that they didn't have to politicize my food! If he had supported gay marriage, I would still feel awkward about eating there.

I boycotted Aug 1st, but I did see the lines of "walk-ins" wrapped around the building. The McDonalds next door flew it's flag of golden arches upside down in distress. I heard that all the locations around here were like this. I even heard that they ran out of food!

I think it's cruel of them to add addictive substances in their food, as I crave it whenever I can't have it. I always want to eat there on sundays, and during the week, after 10pm. And of course now that they've politicized it, Im not sure when Ill be able to have it again. =*(

I don;t understand why they want to try and bring a business down because they are expressing their first amendment freedom of speech. Chik fil a is known as a christian business. They close on Sundays. That's their freedom. This is the United States, not Gay Communist Russia.
