Amiga had many more musicians as it was an open system, but SNES had only the best sound artists.

There are a load of great tunes by amateur Amiga musicians, but SNES also had great tunes (especially in RPGs like Chrono Trigger)

Amiga only just wins because of the open-ness of the system.

Neither. The ultimate sound chip is the C=64 SID chip. It's good enough to make people constructing synthesuzers based on the chip due to it's quite unique analogue and digital nature.

But I prefer to take the question literally, the Amiga sound hardware. It's almost as fun as the SID, especially when using a 14 bit stereo codec with 32 tracks. It takes a bit tweaking the regs, since every chip differs in the volume control used to modulate the 6 bits of volume modulation....

Please feel free to ask Amiga stuff, I've been a professional Amiga salesman, repair guy and a l33t demo coder and still owns my dear Amiga computers. Nothing compares to them, especially not booting from power on to a fully loaded OS in less than four seconds.
