I was not sure how to relate this little tale where, I didn't go to the haven because im not blue . . . but well. Anyways. Noisy people make me nervous, especially if I do not know them. Being out and about usually has me a bit on edge, because between the constant ambient activity and having to be focused on what I am working on, I can get kinda confuzzled.

Well I was at a dollar store today with my roommate/best friend. I tend to buy a lot of cotton clothing and I like super heroes so I shop at the men's section for t-shirts a lot. I had on today one of my ACDC/Iron Man T-shirts.

Out of nowhere (because I did not see thi slittle person comming) a two year old starts running full speed my direction screaming "IRONMAN IRONMAN IRONMAN LOOK MOMOMO IRONMAN!!"

I froze, put my hands in the air and started walking backwards fast. His mom apologized and I sort of nodded and swallowed. But I was very eager to get out of the store.

It was kinda cute, after the fact, like hours later. But That kid scared the daylights out of me and I don't think im wearing this shirt again for a while. Problem is most of my shirts have hero logos. Iron Man, bat man, ghost busters, thunder cats, etc.

I can sympathize.. I get anxious in public in general (I'm a hermit). So when I AM out in the world I tend to retreat into my mind and get lost in thought. My family enjoys scaring the living daylights out of me. Sometimes other people do too and then they laugh at me and say "I'm sorry! I didn't know you would have that reaction!" I also seem to have instant recoil effects when people touch me, worse if I don't see or notice them around me.

xD I had a similar situation to yours but I was in a toilet and some guy came into the bathroom with his kid, the kid climbed under into my stall -.- I had the kind of reaction someone has when a fictional demon claws at their feet from under a bed haha.

I have serious sensory issues when it comes to noise. Certain pitches make me cry. Not to mention that I have social anxiety, though this happens more often when i am in a large crowd. I get disoriented with too much noise because I cannot distinguish it. I miss out conversations, cues, etc. I can't pay attention to too much at once.

The sudden noise when I was walking just kinda hurt, not to mention that it made me very nervous.

And this is why I have my mp3 player, to block out this sort of noise when I'm out somewhere.

I carry an MP3 player, but I do not use it while walking on stores because I never go alone. I can't drive (that would be unsafe between my near-legal blindness and my sensory issues) therefore my roommate drives when we need to go anywhere and if I need something from the store, she takes me. So we talk and walk together and what not, I couldn't keep it on and do the other stuff. Sometimes tho I say i have to go use the rest room and hide in a bathroom stall for a few minutes with it on, if i feel too overwhelmed. Saves me crying fits.

Kids scare me all the time. I could walk past a group of 8-year-olds playing, and somehow I feel that they are rather intimidating, like the way they are always on bikes and are always shouting to eachother. Kids are becoming more and more rude these days, and don't like to respect their elders.

I can see how that would be extremely alarming. Even if it hadn't been a little kid, just having anyone suddenly run towards you yelling like that, even if they're not yelling at you, can scare the s*** out of you.

I don't like being touched, much less hugged and kissed by strangers. I had to go pick up a bunch of Spanish translators of Cuban extraction at the airport one night, and nobody warned me in advance about their, um, effusiveness. So I had a whole bunch of noisy people all talking at once with foreign accents and hugging me and doing the both-cheeks kiss-kiss thing. 8O 8O 8O

Yea if its a strange kid that might make me a bit nervous, if I know the child or at least their parents or whoever they with it probably wouldn't make me nervous per say. If only because in this day and time the situation could lead anywhere, they bump into you and suddenly you got parents say you assaulted their child or something.

I have some sensitivities to noise, as well, and I especially don't like it when people come at me out of nowhere like the little kid did to you.

I also have some "character shirts," like ones that have Disney characters on them....like Mater, Minnie Mouse, Pooh, the penguin from Toy Story 2, and I used to have a couple of shirts with Dory from Finding Nemo on them...sometimes kids would point at me when I was wearing the Dory shirts and say "Look mom, she's wearing Dory!" It was cute, I had to admit, but a little embarrassing, too. I'm sort of surprised I don't get much of a reaction from little boys when I go out in public with my Mater shirt on.

Stick to Thundercats when you might encounter children. Most of today's kids wont know what it is ;p

I will definitely keep that in mind! =) I am not as weirded out today as I was yesterday, but still, I never really know how to react to screaming children, mostly because the noise paralyzes me.

Oh yea I forgot to say I am hispanic so I understand what you mean by the loudness and the hugging and kissing. I am puerto rican and my family strives on being loud and being kissy and my mom always thought i was just kinda distant. No, they are just uncomfortable and annoying

You're not alone in that, I find screaming children very upsetting too :/
