I started to learn guitar recently and tonight I officially got properly hooked. I hadn't played for a day or so and when I picked it up, instead of random chords and scales, music came out :) OK it was pretty crappy music but still, wooo! The sore fingers are now worth it and I feel totally chuffed with myself :)

Do any of you guys remember the exact moment like that when you became hooked on playing your instrument?

Yeah, those are wonderful times. I call them 'breakthrough' moments where you get the fuel you need to keep going, and when you remember why you started learning in the first place.

I recall getting 'hooked' after learning chords through playing along to early Oasis and Green Day, but a moment that sticks in my head was when I bought a capo and the tab to the first Stone Roses album. When I nailed the riff to 'Waterfall' I felt really pleased with myself and got a bit more confidence. Ironically I've forgotten how to play that tune now, so I'll dig the book out and see how much I can remember...

I don't remember the exact time but definetely the time frame. The first actual song I learned was Hotel California and that was a major accomplishment when I first really got into playing guitar. I first played guitar at age 10 but didn't really get serious until age 16. So at 16 years old, I had to learn on an electric guitar that was suitable for a 10 year old. Small as heck it was with 1 single coil pickup in the middle position. It only had a volume pot and was made by Synsonics. lol
