What is there to watch on tv these days?

I haven't watched televison in a long time. Is there anything good to watch?
sometimes I find television to monotonous, repellant, or simply stupid, be-
cause of the filth and nonsense that the put in it. I have tried Foxnews, but
I'm not a republican anymore: I am apathetic. I have tried History, Discovery
and NGC (National Geographic Channel) but they have way too many reality
shows.
I think the best thing to do is stop watching television, unless you guys can give
me a reason to go back, and tell me about something that is worth watching.

Do you have VH1 Classic in USA?

It's a music channel a split channel of VH1 that shows 80s + 90s music. Better than the modern music which I hate though.

I mostly watch it, and flick channels when it comes to the MTV and Mobile Phone Ringtone lame adverts.

I assume your american because you have FOX.

I'm from the UK though. You might not get it.

Either that or try Bravo, if you've got that.

I'm not too sure what channels the US have got, methinks it differs.

I'm happy with only about 10 out of the many 100s of channels on the cable I've got.

scrubs,nbc(just started it's season yesterday)
24,fox(starting again in january)
monk,usa( starts again on december 12)
MASH,hallmark channel. (MASH is not being played on the hallmark channel right now, since hallmark has to play their stupid holiday movies during MASH's time.)
the simpsons,fox
house,fox
law and order:svu,nbc

i'm sure that's all...

oh, and i watch lost, abc, as well but that show would be confusing if you started watching it right now...okay if you started watching it when it comes back on.
bravo shows some pretty interesting things as well

Not much, I'm afraid. I'd love to go back, 20 years to watch Brady Bunch re-runs.

In the case of British television: absolutely nothing. The Internet now takes up my time instead. I might watch the odd political programme but that's about it.

I know. Out of 500+ channels there is hardly anything worth watching anymore. I really only watch to catch up with primetime shows like Lost, The Office, The Amazing Race, ect. I only watch TV during the day when I'm really bored.

What to watch on telly?

NOTHING! Telly is crap that's why I don't watch it

Rent stuff on DVD with Netflix. TV sucks when it's not in DVD form, and even then most of it still sucks.

veresae's gotta point. dvd=no commercials and bonus features! either that or you can record everything you watch and fast forward through all the commercials.

What is there on TV worth watching? Depends on your tastes, I guess. If you're like me, a sci-fi geek who likes action-adventure shows and procedural crime shows, you may like the shows on the following list. On the other hand, if you're not, you probably won't. Asking a question like yours is a little like asking what kind of car you should buy -- it depends on your individual tastes.

Stuff I watch regularly: Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, Doctor Who, CSI Miami, CSI New York, Smallville, House MD, Law & Order, NCIS, The Amazing Race, Heroes, South Park, The Simpsons, and The Royal Canadian Air Farce.

Stuff I watch occasionally: Jeopardy, CSI, Numb3rs, Mythbusters, The Dog Whisperer, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and King of the Hill.

Piss off! What about "Doctor Who" or "Torchwood"? I consider British programs, especially comedy, to be the best in the world. I wish Australia had as good comedy! The nearest we have is "Kath and Kim" and "Kingswood Country"! !! !

As for what I consider watchable that's currently on: the "CSI" shows aren't too bad, but I prefer the science to the characters and politics. "Numb3rs", "Bones", "NCIS" and "Criminal Minds" aren't too bad. Watched parts of the last "Prime Suspect" and they weren't too bad. The new series of "Doctor Who" may tickle your fancy. If you don't mind a bit of lowbrow, but entertaining science, definitely try "MythBusters".

Older shows that re out on DVD that may take your fancy: "Monty Python's Flying Circus", "Fawlty Towers", "The Young Ones", "Blackadder", "Red Dwarf", "Bottom", "Black Books", "The League of Gentlemen" for a dose of British Comedy, and I recommend "Absolutely Fabulous" if you're a woman (I like a few episodes, but I think it's more female-oriented). If you must have American comedy, then "Frasier" or "Futurama" have my stamps of approval. The old series of "Doctor Who" is an oldie but goldie, as is the short-lived Patrick McGoohan series "The Prisoner". Animation, well, besides "Futurama" mentioned above, and a few episodes of "The Simpsons" and "South Park", I can only think of "Neon Genesis Evangelion" and, if you want a realistic space drama, "Planetes".
