Has there been any Physical consequences to you obsessions/interests? Like flying to the other side of the world to see something you've always wanted to see, and maybe more even settling down/working with it?

How did it go?

I've never done this, but if I had enough money, then that's what I'll do. I have for a long time obsessed over Saab's convertibles and when I have enough money for a car, that's what I'll buy. :)

My obsession for compound movements has also improved my health a lot. :P

I can think of positive and negative physical consequences to my interests.

Along the same lines as Kurgan, I've recently grown fond of daily walks (a semi-formal attempt on my part to cultivate 'good' and 'positive' obsessions/compulsions). I'm starting to get comments from co-workers taking note of my weight loss.

In the past, before I seriously burned myself with 'special interest'-related debt, my obsessions would typically lead to expensive synthesizers and drum-machines showing up at my door. I've since learned to actively suppress my special interests... which kind of stinks.

But that's how I learn... by making mistakes.

I can think of one more obvious physical consequence of my special interests: my large-ish music/movie/television library. Suffice it to say, it is a well-organized library.

Regards.

Hm, my obsession with atmospheric sciences will probably lead to real storm chasing at some point but I guess, as far as personal physical side-effects; my guitar obsession has led to plenty of hand/wrist/arm issues and weightlifting obsessively has caused some knee problems so far. I think the difference between the average weight lifter having knee problems and myself is that I refuse to take a month or so off to heal for fear of slight muscle atrophy and sudden loss of motivation.

I currently have a special interest vehicle that I'm pretty sure is trying to kill me! Just the one machine is giving me headaches, a hyperextended knee, increased heart rate, a pinched nerve, cuts, bruises, burns and meltdown-related injuries. The bright side is I've lost another 10 pounds just from pedaling furiously to avoid being run over

Well, I get lots of grease on my fingers, get lots of small cuts on my hands and spend entirely too much time in local junkyards. I also tend to go junkyard hunting when I am on vacation too as I love to see what I can find in different parts of the country or even the world. Shockingly though, junkyard tourism has yet to catch on in the mainstream...

Interest #1: mangled toes after dropping something related to the specific interest on my foot.
Interest #2: almost cut off my finger when the blade slipped while filing down parts.
Interest #3: No physical consequences yet. Good thing, since said interest involves weapons.
Interest #4: No physical consequences yet.

My interest in cannabis could possibly lead to incarceration. But I'm white , old, and suburban, so... no worries. (Well, fewer worries anyway.)

Physical consequences? Yeah, I almost got hooked on opiates, because of a special interest in them. I really went through a rough spot last autumn, when I couldn't control my codeine use, I had cravings all the time... Luckily, I shifted my special interest to weed and that helped alleviate the cravings... I do not regret it for one bit, though. I still love the opiated feeling, but I'm better at controlling my patterns of use and keeping them as healthy as possible...

I also repeatedly get back pain because of spending too many hours on the PC researching for information about my obsessions...

My interest in sweets and rich foods have contributed a great deal to my current weight issues, if that counts. :?

Mine shifts from clothes to food.... or both. Ebay shopping got me in a lot of trouble.... then I got obsessed with selling things.

I lived my life going back and forth on so many things - wasn't diagnosed till much later on - at least now I know why I do this because it used to drive me crazy.

The physical damage from weight gain/loss/gain again has had consequences - I don't fit into any of my ebay purchases right now. That part stinks. I am still on the path of accepting that I do have a special interest(fitness/nutrition) and that its OK to have one but allow time to enjoy it.

I shut down with my own special interest when we decided to move - my obsession/interest became researching everything possible about our new area/schools/ etc. etc. for my daughter(she has autism/5 moved for school and back to family)....... I am left here right now feeling personally broken because i have gained a lot of weight over the past year when I shifted gears. Change and overeating happen to me routinely. I am allowing myself to having my special interest no matter what else is going on for I truly get miserable - it feels like I lost a limb or something if I don't pursue my special interest.

My husband said to me the other week "we moved, you obsessed on all that for us...we are settled now.... go back to obsessing on yourself because you are much happier then" :D :D

Yes, I've driven insane distances due to my obsession with traffic lights and their locations, especially in rural areas. All I can say is thank you Google street view! There's also one interest I don't wish to discuss that I realize could have had fatal consequences. I'm VERY lucky to have escaped permanent injury. I also had an interest in National Fast Food Chains that wasn't exactly healthy although my weight was actually perfectly fine.
