You know the new animated Tim Burton movie coming out in October, Frankenweenie? I'm really looking forward to that one....I watched the live - action short film with the same title when I rented the DVD of Nightmare Before Christmas when I was 14, and thought it was really cute and funny....I often wondered what it would look like animated, and I guess we'll soon find out.

Anyway, what I was wondering was, has anyone noticed that Tim Burton's The Corpse Bride (another favorite of mine) has a main character named "Victor" in it (and isn't he just the CUTEST?? ) and the animated version of Frankenweenie also has a "Victor" in it who looks almost exactly like a younger version of TCB's Victor?

Victor from The Corpse Bride....

....and Victor from the upcoming Frankenweenie!

See the resemblance? :D

Hey, I like Corpse Bride and I'm excited to see Frankenweenie too! :D I hope to go as close to opening day as possible. It will be the 3rd Tim Burton movie that I've gotten to see in theaters since my obsession with his movies began 2 and a half years ago.

I was going to wait until I saw Frankenweenie before buying any merchandise, but I just couldn't help myself - I wound up buying a Victor plush that arrived in the mail a couple of days ago. He's adorable and high quality; my only complaint is that he's not very cuddly due to being so skinny and having poseable wires inside of him.

Yeah, I noticed that the two Victors look awfully similar. Some people even go so far as to think that Frankenweenie is a prequel to Corpse Bride (talk about not doing your research! )

Hey, you're right! They really DO look alike!

I want to see Frankenweenie, too!

Why is that dog "weenie", btw? It's not a dachshund, after all.

Actually, the dog's real name is "Sparky..." but I also don't really know why the "weenie" is in the title. Does anyone else have an idea of why?

In a way, I'm kind of annoyed that Tim Burton couldn't have picked a better title than Frankenweenie, because when I try to tell people about it, immature people always snicker and say "it sounds like a porn movie".

Anyway, my mom thinks the "weenie" in the title comes from the somewhat outdated phrase "teeny-weenie", meaning something puny and small, which could apply to the dog as well as his owner (well, okay so Victor is actually one of the tallest characters, but he's so thin he does look pretty puny).

Yeah, that makes sense! :) And Sparky does kinda look like a small dog in the trailers.

On IMDB someone asked: "Is it a movie about circumcision?"

And the dog looks like Family Dog, the main character of a very awful and short-lived Simpson's wanna-be cartoon from the early 90's, which Tim Burton also helped make. I dunno, it looks to me like they're reusing old characters because they think no one will notice (yeah, right) and the movie title sounds really dumb. Maybe my mind's not as dirty as others because it makes me think of German hot dogs or something.

Whether or not they're reusing characters isn't really relevant seeing as the film itself is a remake of a live-action short directed by Burton. If you haven't seen it already, you should probably check it out. Originally, Sparky was a Bull Terrier, and I don't suppose Franken-Bull is a good name.

I never could warm up to Tim Burton movies like Corpose Bride or Frankenweenie. And when I see advertisements for Frankenweenie I just cringe. The whole concept of bringing a dead dog back to life... and stuff happens like it's tail falls off... I think of my own dogs and I'm just horrified, disgusted. It's a more sanitized version for kids of zombies ala The Walking Dead.

What the...? :?

Just back from seeing this and enjoyed it. It is weird watching a film in black & white.

I do have The Corpse Bride. Will have to watch that. Not seen it yet.
