I'm so sick and fed up with this planet's growing obsession with zombies coming to devour us! Every little thing now is because of zombies. Today I even read a "news" article that a recent study (ugh) shows that people may have fought zombies in the Stone Age because they found fossilized human skulls that appeared to be smashed by other humans. Give me a break, that could be because of anything and not because they were zombies and people intellectually knew back then the only way to escape them was by smashing them in the head. Humans back then may have cannibalized other people when food was really scarce. It's also funny how people only think other people are going to turn zombie and not them, they will somehow not be afflicted by this virus or whatever unless they get attacked by the undead. It's just stupid. STUPID. And I wish I could just fall asleep until this whole end-of-the-world madness is over. In fact I almost wish the world WOULD hurry up and end just to put me out of my misery. :(

My guess is the writers of those types of articles watched SHAUN OF THE DEAD one too many times.

End-of-the-world scenarios: entertaining intellectually (when it's not the same thing every time, mind you) but can get tiring after a while when people WILL NOT STOP INSISTING that it's actually happening. Personally, I really don't think so--at least not for the foreseeable future. This December 21 (or whenever it's supposed to be) will come and go just like Y2K.

I know exactly what you mean. Though for me it was more a big fear of mine. Several zombie movies traumatized me as a kid. I've never understood people's obsession with them. They just freak me out and I get no enjoyment being scared. Even movies like Shaun of the Dead which supposedly aren't supposed to be scary freak me out. If "zombie" is in the title or description I just all-out avoid it. And that goes for shows and movies. If I could get all the disgusting crap out of my head I've seen in those movies I would!

I agree. Zombie jokes are so tired now. I remember when public attention was drawn to the drug "bath salts" and people were saying that the zombie apocalypse had begun and the government was covering it up by saying it was drugs.

"Zombies" are sometimes a reference to civil/political unrest.

Enough already ! !! Lazy writers have worn out these once interesting creatures.

Regarding those smashed in skulls - back in my anthropology classes in college, we were told that while this was possibly evidence of homicide and cannibalism, it was just as possible that the damage was postmortem after burial, when sentiment caused the hollow skulls to cave in.

TV is full of yet a.n.other vampire series. I'm sick of them and no longer watch such stuff. So many producers have jumped onto the zombies & vampires bandwagon that the wheels have fallen off.

It's just another take on the "survival scenario" that people fantasize about, and hey, it can make good fiction if that's your thing (from Deliverance to the original Night of the Living Dead).

I don't find such remotely frightening as nothing would change for me before or after said apocalypse causing event. I'd be living the exact same way either way.

(Now, movies about WW2 and whatnot that try to be factual are frightening to me.)

I like end-of-the-world scenarios, zombies and the like, but I do have to agree that it has gotten way out of hand. Though I cannot claim it is impossible for a zombie-like disease/virus to exist, I'd say it's highly improbable. Not to mention the fact that if it is as virulent as it's portrayed to be in films and television programs, 99.999% of the population would end up infected (after all, look how many people contract influenza - only this would be a one-time deal; there would be no contracting it twice unless multiple strains existed and simultaneous infection could occur). Another vector to consider is the transfer of blood and other bodily fluids from attacking the undead. How often blood would end up in the eyes, mouth or unknown cuts on the body when you're bludgeoning them to death of spraying them with bullets at close range? Granted, the undead are also decomposing, they would not last terribly long/would rapidly lose mobility. With all these combined factors, it is highly unlikely an outbreak would occur. Even if one did, it wouldn't be a protracted event due to the speed at which a body decomposes (in winter, they'd simply freeze anyway, thus being rendered immobile and even possibly no longer an active threat). There are some positives about the cultural fixation on zombies and the zombie apocalypse and the government has not hesitated to pounce on the opportunity to use this obsession to teach effective measures to take in disease prevention and control as well as civil preperation for large-scale disasters, including evacuation and SIP (shelter-in-place) protocols. Zombies and the fear of the zombie apocalypse are now becoming the new-era Civil Defense...

OK, that was long-winded and pedantic.

Im not worried about zombies because I live in an area that is very high in humidity. Even if zombies were real and therefore reanimated, they would still be dead and subject to decomposition. Humidity speeds that up. All we would need to do here is run to the grocery store and stok up on every thing like we do for threats of snow flurries, go inside and lock the door and stay there for about three days. They would fall apart by then.

The problem would be with the rednecks who just couldn't stay inside. It would be the same way as when a tornado is coming, everybody runs to the door to look for it. Half the good ole boys would be out in the yard trying to see if they could hit the zombies with the shotgun. The other half would be trying to hit them with empty beer cans. We might be a little much for zombies down here.

I'm more worried about the hyperinflation zombies than the actual living dead ones. I expect to see the hyperinflation zombies by 2015 but sadly do not make enough money to buy a piece of rural land and build a bunker on it... Hyperinflation zombies are scarier than real ones since they are made up of the living who blindly go through life as drones, ignoring any possibility that their normal could come crashing down on them, thus rendering them unable to get food, water, or any of the other essentials of life. So, when the bad things do happen, they go crazy and loot from those who have what they need because of their own lack of preparedness.
