Hi everyone. I have a son who will be twelve in January. He was diagnosed with aspergers about 5 years ago. The older he gets the harder it seems to control some of his outburst and meltdowns. I would love to talk with parents who have gone through this age and I have lots of experience with ages 5 to present. Also if some one can let me know how my son can get in touch with other apie kids it would be helpful. He thinks he is the only one in the world with this problem. Thanks for all your help. I look forward to learning more about my son and speak with some parents when I need a sholder to cry on who has been here before.

I think I would count as an Aspie kid! I'm 16 and I hang around in the Kid's Crater! Don't worry, I have a knack for making people feel better.

And welcome to WP!

Hi
My son is 7 and they (school and doctors) have suspected something is not quite right about harry for the last 18 months. We had to fill in a questionairre to test for adhd which was quite difficult for us as it felt like we had to pick his character to pieces! The results were inconclusive and they couldn't make a diagnosis. We took another test for asperegers only this summer and they said it looks like he 'might' have it!! It's frustrating for us because it seems to be taking along time to find out one way or the other. The latest advice was to play him mozart?! !! I am looking for support amongst fellow parents and any tips on how to handle kids with aspie.

is there any way he can join a social skills group? And do you have an autism/asperger's support group where you live. If so you might be able to work something out with one or more of the parents. Also, do you go to church?? Where we go it is kind of amazing how many autistic and As kids are there. I never knew of so many until my son was diagnosed. My son's OT does some social skills groups so that could be something you could check into. With so many kids being diagnosed these days it seems like there should be some kids around you that he could relate to. Anyway, just a few ideas for you and your son, hope they might help a litte!

I was only diagnosed recently and from what I understand the symptoms tend to get more pronounced as you get older. That certainly is my experience. Unfortunately, that does include outbursts and meltdowns

I live in Southeastern PA (near Philadelphia) and I attend a support group (GRASP) here. Maybe I could contact the group leader and see if he knows of anything in your area...
