i've been to see a therapist a couple of times now, and at the last encounter she suggested that i do some research about AS and think about whether any of what i find feels familiar. that got me discovering websites like this.

wow. after 50+ years i think i'm realizing why i got dumped at sr. prom, why i have had problems at most places i've worked, why most of my "friends" (acquaintances) are made through my wife's contacts, etc. maybe also what has helped me be creative as a scientist... (the ups and the downs)

there are, however, a couple of things about a "typical aspie profile" (and i realize that all aspies are different) that don't seem to fit. one of them is the bit about "narrow focus". i'm more the other way. i have trouble getting things done sometimes because i'm interested in too many things all at once, and am very easily distracted. sort of ADD symptoms (the problem my wife originally suspected).

anyone got any thoughts?

also, anyone want to hear a long story about a short incident that happened to me when i was in my early 20s? sorry, couldn't resist.

Some ADD symptoms or even fullblown ADD is more common among autistics and in some cases those two seem somehow connected, but not in all.
So yes, it's possible. :)

I'm the exact same way. I can be on one subject and something reminds me of one of my other interests, and it's as if a switch is flipped in my head and I'm on to my next interest.
A couple of my grade school teachers thought I had ADD. Looking back on it, I can see why. My mom didn't agree, so I was never tested for it.

If I have AS then I definitely have ADD. My brain switches from one obsession to another. I never know when it's going to happen, I just know it will at some point. It explains all the hobbies I've had and how I get very good at something (even mundane things like housekeeping) and a couple of weeks later I can't even work out how often I should do the laundry but I've suddenly learnt everything there is to know about Lupus.

I was childhood diagnosed with ADHD, and strongly suspect I have AS as well. I seem to check 100% of the ADHD boxes and 80-90% of the AS boxes.

Yes they can have ADD. ADHD even.

I'm so bored and restless right now and I bet the reason is because I need to move around.
If I had any focus today I'd be less bored.

SImply... Yes

It is also quite common for Aspergians to suffer from ADD on top of other conditions

I take Ritalin just for that reason.
