Self-explanatory. It can be anything, whether it be a mom-and-pop place or a fast-food place ya love.
---
I like McD's, Jack in the Box (a burger place once confined to the Western US but slowly expanding) as far as the big names go, but as far as places I've been to in my travels? Phillipe's in Los Angeles is my fave, they were the birthplace of the French Dip Sandwich (or at least, one of two places in LA to claim to have invented said sandwich) and Voodoo Doughnut in Portland (a menagerie of doughnuts to die for!)

Darliston Inn, it's part of a family pub chain called Fayre and Square, It's the go-to restaurant for many family birthdays. Pieminister in Trentham, also part of a company that of course sells pies (they also sell them to supermarkets sometimes and you can buy pies to cook at home from the cafes too.) Subway is one of my favourite big name fast food places along with KFC.
It's not a restaurant but there's a stall in Canterbury that's owned by a man who makes crepes. Lovely crepes, yum!
There's a cafe local to me called Plaice to Eat (plaice because fish and chips is on the menu somewhere), it's just your average greasy spoon pensioners paradise type place but I feel really comfortable there.

Voodoo Doughnut, definitely! My mouth waters just thinking about that place...

Great Cuisine of India. Located in Lakewood, WA. It's a family owned place that makes the most delicious tasting Indian food I have ever had.

Other place that claims to have invented it is Cole's. Don't know who actually did, but Phillipe's is better.

My all-time absolute favorite place to eat is La Super Rica in Santa Barbara. Thought I discovered this amazing place, before finding out that it was SB's most popular restaurant (and had been a favorite of Julia Child) and that the only reason it was empty whenever I showed up was because I ate at weird times. I lived up there for a year, and ate there at least twice a week.

As for fast food, there's an In-N-Out a couple blocks from where I live. It's my go-to place whenever I don't feel like cooking.

There's a good mexican restaraunt in the nearest somewhat large city. The restaraunt is called Cancun, and is both really good, and cheap enough that a jobless teenager can afford to eat at it occasionally. If you ever find yourself in Adrian Michigan, stop there and get the California Burrito. It's better and larger than one would expect for $7.

La Provence, it's a really fancy restaurant outside of New Orleans. They have their own garden in the back where they grow most of their ingredients, and have some extremely talented chefs. Unfortunately for that kind of quality you do pay a pretty hefty price though lol. For anyone in the New Orleans area I highly recommend it!

The atmosphere in the restaurant is really nice too, the building itself looks really neat and it's surrounded by woods.

It's my 18th wedding anniversary today, but my hubby hasn't suggested going anywhere for dinner. :(
Here are a few ideas for him:
Fratelli's - family friendly Italian in our town, with a great cheap pre-theatre menu and the best zuppa I've ever tasted
Cafe Cossachok - Russian in the centre of Glasgow - definitely just for a romantic meal for two
Mario's Plaice - chippy with a lovely little restaurant, in the West End
Frankie & Benny's - Italian American eaterie - my daughter's favourite restaurant chain
Chiquito - good chain of Mexican restaurants

Hogs Breath Cafe. But they reduced the size of their steaks recently, now the old size is the one you have to pay extra to get.
Other than that it's the local RSL for their All Day Breakfast/Mixed Grill.

I live in a town full of restaurants/cafes and I've hardly been to any of them :P

gourmet pizza kitchen and al aseel. i cant remember what a aseel is like in terms of sensory issues. arab places tend to have heaps of people, noise and music and bad lighting. and there used to be a spanish/italian place near oxford street that was good. and th rsl for their buffet. 'cause who doesnt love all you can eat buffets?

Minato, a small exclusive restaurant that you can only enter by booking. They only open from 7pm and they serve sushi. If you don't eat up you get kicked out :D

I think they're all wrong, I can imagine people in their own homes dipping sandwiches in gravy waaaaay way before the restaurants made it "theirs".

Morgan's seafood (the takeaway one)

It's a one-off seafood place near a boat harbor in the city I live in.

I don't know... I've never had a strong emphasis around food in my life :?

I guess of fast food... I prefer Carl's Jr., Subway, and Taco Bell. For their own reasons of generally tasting better than other fast food and being rather cost efficient :?

As far as sit downs... I've not been to them in quite awhile, but I used to like a chain called Lucille's BBQ, and from many years ago... Sonny's Real Pit BBQ. Though, I like sushi quite a bit too... I can't tell the difference between good and bad sushi well enough to label a favorite restaurant >_>
