Why do helicopters just mindlessly hover above?!

This is utterly maddening - it happens every few months or so, the worst times being at around 2am, when there's no other source of noise... there's this DUMB PIECE OF s**t HELICOPTER! But why?! What's the point? It does move just a bit away, so the horrible constant noise recedes, but soon returns!

I'm seriously feeling like it's some kind of state-sponsored oppression. I mean, motorbikes being driven back and forth by dumb teenagers is one thing, but helicopters above populated neighbourhoods, in the middle of the night?!

Nighttime thermal imaging. Probably looking for possible indoor marijuana growth. The police are desperate to bring anyone in. It's all about $$$.

While I don't put it past the government to be doing such things for nefarious purposes, the real reason is likely for more rational. My guess is that it's the police looking for a criminal who tried to steal a car or break in to someone's house. My neighborhood is poor and white and we have the cops doing this sort of thing fairly frequently here. Sometimes they even block off whole sections to try and control the routes of escape.

Yeah I don't think they just dispatch helicopters for the fun of it. They were probably looking for someone or gathering surveillance.

If it's a police helicopter, they are looking for criminals usually in support of a ground operation. It might be an active chase.

If it's a medivac, they are holding for the fire department to clear a landing zone.

It's the black helicopters.
They hover so as to broadcast mental images into people's minds.
You aren't supposed to hear them.
Do not go outside when you hear them .....

We have two police choppers, makes me unreasonably agitated... Does not help that we live right on the glide path for the city center airport... so when the cops take off or land, they have to go over my house....

They say it's the quietest one on the market... I say they need to try harder....

I really hate it when they sit on station or turn circles over and over my house....

I've made a point to give them the finger everytime I'm outside at 3AM taking my dog for a pee because they have screwed up our sleep.

I sometimes wish they would crash into my garage... I could use a new garage and a couple of vehicles.... They could use one less chopper.


Long story short, I hate choppers as well.

In my area they are either looking for weed,it's air evac (takes an hours drive to nearest hospital,they fly out critical patients),military training,or GASP,the dreaded black helicopter.I and several neighbors saw one,I don't believe all that conspiracy stuff,I think it was just a special Op copter on some training mission.We get alot of military fly overs here,C130s and little fast jets and big double prop copters.And some weird spy looking planes that had what looked like discs on them,satellite or radar?
