Do those with AS like to clean? Wash their laundry? Stay organized?

Seems like most people with AS hate cleaning. Is this common?

I'm NT and hate a messy house. If I marry an AS ... would it be up to me to keep everything tidy?

Well... I don't think any Aspie "hates" cleaning. It's more that we can be really unorganized. My room looks pretty chaotic most of the time and I only wash anything when I absolutely have to. That's because for us it can be really exhausting to start, not to mention finish an activity, especially if we don't like to do it.

So yes, if you live together with an Aspie and are a very tidy person, you could expect some struggle. Except if he/she's one of those Aspies who need everything clean and organized. Then you can expect them to sort their stuff by colour or name.

From what she (AS) told me ...

1. Her room is a mess. Stuff gets pushed under the bed. She can't find things she needs. Room hasn't been cleaned in weeks (months?).
2. Her mom does her laundry.
3. She hates to clean, but she does it at work.

Yeah, sounds like me.
Are you super tidy? Like my mother, who has a fit of rage when there's a few clothes lying around? In that case I would really reconsider the living together thing.

My room tends to be messy, but different areas in the house that other people see I keep very clean. For example, I try to keep the kitchen and living room clean at all times.

Both of my rooms are messy as heck.

Yeah it's one extreme or the other I've found. Either super clean, or supper messy.

I'm running with the theory that there is an emotional component to it. Because were not so emotionally connected to our surroundings we don't feel the need to clean naturally. So the motivation is to control your or not control your environment if that makes sense.

Speaking for myself: Yes and it's a very low priority

I am

I'm far more comfortable with a messy house. I am comfortable with piles around me, and feel exposed when I'm in a very neat place.
If I were in a relationship I would try to help out, but it would never ever work out with someone who's likes it neat. It could only work with someone who is laid back with it.

So, people with AS are likely to become hoarders?

Hoarding is something different. So no, I don't think we're more likely to do that.

Yes and no. You gotta understand the lack of emotional discomfort that comes from messy rooms.

AS types can be very clean, it's whether or not we choose to control our environment that makes us slobs.

I'm very hygienic and have mountains of clean clothes on the floor in my room, as well as a random assortment of musical equipment.

This is a classical normal person having no understanding of why they are the way they are. So I ask why do you clean as a NT. You need to understand the logic of cleaning.

For me I like cleaning and am very organized at work, however I don't associate my personal space as something that is open to the public. If it were it'd be a completely different story.

There are some Aspie OCD types who love to clean, but also Aspies who don't clean.

I don't think so either. I do have some OCD-ish traits, and can be a bit of a hoarder. I'd rather have 5 soaps too many than 1 too little, and I tend to have to take more than 1 of my favorite pizza when I shop, for instance.

I just don't really care if everything is messy. My room is very messy but I like it that way. I don't see the point in cleaning it as no one is going to see it and even if they do I'm not too bothered. :)

Which brings us to the next question ...

If most Aspies don't like cleanliness - would they still make good parents? I mean, to clean their childs clothes (folded and ready to wear for school), keep the house clean and presentable (safe for a child to play indoors), and organized?

My AS girl doesn't really care if she has children or not. I think that would be best (no children) so the focus can be entirely on her comfort and needs without additional stress. To keep her organized and live stress-free (as possible).
