Out of curiosity, how many different diagnoses did y'all have prior to getting diagnosed with an ASD?

Personally, I had 4.

I don't think i have any "official" diagnoses, but at least one of my grade school teachers wanted me tested for ADD. I wasn't though because my mom didn't believe her.

I had a breakdown 4 months into the airforce. I had a psych eval and the psychiatrist said it showed schizoid and avoidant personality disorders and AS were all possible causes of my issues. She didn't go into any more detail, because it was just to see if I should stay in the military. I was discharged a couple weeks later.

I didn't really look into any of this until several years later when someone else suggested that I may have AS.

AS, with ADD seems to explain my issues best.

Starting the process to get tested for AS.

Two if you count dysthymia and MDD as separate things. I'm not sure why my pdoc listed both in my file. She wrote something like Dysthymia and MDD (in partial remission). I count that as one.

My AS and comorbid OCD were diagnosed at the same time.

I was Dx'd ADD (current ADHD PI) as a child, and severe depression later in life. I do not have an official ASD Dx, but strongly suspect I am at the milder end of the spectrum because of the traits I have. I also probably have social anxiety disorder too.

I am not sure if I understand the question. Do you mean how many diagnoses we got when we got diagnose with an ASD as in ASD with co morbids or how many diagnoses did we have before we got the ASD label?

I didn't get any formal diagnoses before AS, related to the AS symptoms. I had two psychiatrists suggest social anxiety though, when I went to see them about more general issues. When I felt quite sure that I had AS, that was what I pursued so I saw an ASD specialist.

When I was very young (about 3) I was almost diagnosed with full autism. This is odd, because I wasn't diagnosed with AS until I was about 9 years old!

I was diagnosed with Aspergers, then with classic autism (the classic autism diagnosis came after the interview with my Dad and took into account development history and every else I couldn't remember).

I was never diagnosed with anything and still haven't been. I don't know how that happened considering all the special classes and schools I was in including a mental hospital where I did a 30 day evaluation and went to school as an outpatient for several months. I quit school in 1991 and they diagnose kids with more stuff now then they did back then.

My daughter was diagnosed with 1) oppositional confrontational disorder, and 2) ADHD before she was diagnosed with AS. The first psycologist we took her to said she was "too bright". She said bright people had behavioral issues and as she grew up she would overcome those issues. That is not a diagnosis, though (I think). And by the way, my daughter did not overcome the issues.

You mean oppositional defiant disorder.

Never any officially to my knowledge, but doctors said ADD, ADHD and especially OCD before I figured out it was Aspergers. I just have trouble getting anyone to agree now because I've coped so well but it was laughably obvious as a child that these experts should be ashamed of themselves for not seeing it.

I have been diagnosed with Tourette's, major depressive disorder, and bipolar II. I'm in the process of diagnosis for Asperger's/autism (and any other conditions) now...hopefully I'll know soon.

I got "Depression" in the first case. I do not see this as a wrong diagnosis. When it came to find out to where the depression started then the Asperger thing came up.
