I hate it with a burning passion. If I could dig a hole and bury myself until January, I would. First of all, I have to relive the memory of my best friend being killed by a drunk driver on Christmas eve every year. Then there's the financial drain, followed by the sensory overload and family obligations. On top of all of that, I have to deal with the ridicule that comes along with being a Christian who does not decorate for Christmas. For the life of me, I cannot understand why I am the one who "doesn't make sense" because I refuse to celebrate a Christian holiday by hanging pagan objects all over my house!
I am sorry about your best friend being killed
IMHO, if you don't want to decorate then don't decorate. If they are going to ridicule you then let them go pound sand.
I do have a question(s) though about hanging pagan objects. First, I'm not ridiculing you myself I'm just seeking understanding. You don't pray to these objects or worship them. You don't believe in the pagan religions or the pagan gods am I correct? To me, these things would have no meaning because I do not believe in these gods. All I would see is a tree, lights and just decorations. The symbolic representation to the pagan gods are not there for me.
I, myself, believe in Jesus as my lord and savior who died for my sins. My worship, my heart and my love goes to him.
My pastor said that celebrating holloween is a big no-no. I did not understand this though. To me, all the children are doing is dressing up and trying to obtain candy. I'm not mocking you I'm just trying to understand your thoughts and my pastor's thoughts.
