Yes, the 1% and the global elite are yet again trying to take over the Internet.

However, they made one fatal mistake, they pissed off Google.

When you piss off Google to the point where a cause ends up on their homepage, you have to face the wrath of the entire Internet.

I expect another Operation Blackout style protest to be public by morning, not to mention everything else that goes with it.

What are you talking about? The UN and governments around the world want to take over and control the Internet.

I would bet that "the 1%" would rather see it free from government control if they thought about it at all.

It's kind of ironic that Google provided all the help that they did to reelect a President that would likely think that anything the UN does is just fine with him.

The Internet is a threat to the one percent's power.

One thing I really detest is conspiracy theories. And that is followed very closely by conspiracy theorists.

PM - Thank you for posting this! I have done a little research (aka Googling) and found out from different news sources that this international meeting regarding the future of the Internet is indeed taking place today. I will make sure to do my part to rally behind the Internet and make my voice heard, just as I did with the SOPA/PIPA bills.

That's how THEY want you to feel. Dismiss anyone with such ideas as automatically loony, delusional, self-righteous, or what have you.

Don't believe everything you hear, but don't be so quick to close your mind and dismiss others based on some internalized tenet you've established for yourself.

How is that a conspiracy theory? It's not like i'm insinuating a country the size of New Jersey runs another country 50 times its size. I'm pretty sure that OWS any various other anti-1% protests were organized through the internet, so it's obvious that the 1% wants to control the web.

It is very probable that few, if any, of the 1% that the OWS is determined to blame for all their ills are of any concern at all. The OWS doesn't even amount to a pin prick.

Seems to me that this is google manipulating the easily hoodwinked into believing that there is a man behind the curtain.

If government wanted to regulate the internet, government is easily placed to do so. After all, how craven have google been when dealing with the government of the PRC?

And let's not ever forget that the directing minds behind Google are very firmly entrenched in the 1%.

I thought this was going to be a rant about trolls...
If you dislike Google, you can always use Startpage, Yahoo!, MSN, etc. for a browser.

There are two things I'm afraid of losing in this battle over internet regulation. One is YouTube. Videogame footage is fair use and all but it is a grey area concerning copyright. SOPA/PIPA and their predecessor Bill s.978 added Videogame footage to the list of media they did not want to be streamed so freely. Videogame footage promotes a game, provides free advertisement, allows viewers to decide whether or not they like it then buy it and the developers make more money. As a result, the videogame industry became bigger than Hollywood and they were just jealous they were being outdone by simple electronic video stimulation so they fixed that hoping to take them down a peg. If I have to lose my YouTube account because I uploaded over 500 videos of videogame footage, I will be so pissed and the internet will become 90-95% boring because others on YouTube will be targeted too. F***ING LOBBYISTS SHOULD STAY AWAY FROM THE INTERNET!! ! THEY DON'T KNOW HOW IT WORKS!! !

I'll attempt to come up with a better title.

It's obvious Google is protecting their source of income, but it happens to coincide with the interest of the people.

Page and Brin are firmly entrenched in the 1%, but their motto would not be "don't be evil" if they were anything like what controls Wall Street.

Government and their corporate cronies are not and never have been friends of liberty.

"A free and open Web" is an illusion. It has never been free and open, and never will be. Everything one does on the internet is or can be controlled by someone else. Always been that way, always will be.

The only freedom that has ever existed on the Web is what those who have the power at the moment allow. Who "those" are has changed over time, but "they" have always been there, and always will be.
