Hi there,
I'm new to Wrong Planet although I landed on it over 4 decades ago. I'm an undiagnosed Aspie; undiagnosed because I could not find any autism specialist in my region/country who could bother to see me. They're more interested in children I assume and adult autists must be too boring for them - are we a lost cause, do they consider it is too late to do something about autistic adults? I also assume it is more difficult to diagnose autism in adults because we probably compensate a lot of traditional symptoms with age and experience, It is true in my case: I have much less difficulty finding out what other people feel or how I'm supposed to act for example, but it is merely because I have learned a lot with time, I guess I made myself a sort of 'dictionary' or instruction manual if you like. But I still find it very hard, impossible even, to detect subtil reactions or non-verbal messages and I had to develop good acting abilities to avoid making a fool of myself. Although it is not always possible. Apart from social difficulties that still prevent me having real friends (don't ask about my love life...), I also have the sensory overwhelming, absent eye contact, obsessional interests and almost all other enjoyable aspects of Asperger's syndrome. Although I'm kind of glad to be different, I would probably do very well with less difference and less indifference...
