Tell us what your obsessions are! Tell us about them! It's one of my favourite hobbies, and I can't be on my own!

Define obsessions.

Oh, I have lots and lots and lots of obsessions. They couldn´t be even listed here! Other problem with them is that they constantly change. They always last for two weeks and then I find myself a new obsession. When some last over this range of time, it is a sign that it will become my long-lasting obsession.

As for NOW, I am obsessed with Mark Zuckerberg. Dunno really WHY it is like that. Maybe I admire his brain, I dunno. It´s nothing sexual, tho. I even put his monotonous voice on my MP3 and it puts me to sleep everytime I go to bed these days. Weird, innit?

Well, Aspies can be stereotyped for having 'intense preoccupations' if you will. One of mine, for instance, is the sci-fi franchise Red Dwarf (hence my username!). It's all I talk about, think about, read about, write about... you get the idea. It's as if my world evolves around it.
Usually, during a diagnosis of Asperger's/Autism, the consultant will ask about any 'restrictive interests'. Although, you may not have Asperger's, I don't know. I do though.

I have an obsession with dogs and cats or most other animals for that matter.

Technically, AS interests aren't obsessions. Rather it's a hobby taken to a pathological level.

Firearms and archery for half a year
Sci-Fi for the other half

(They tend to go for 6 months at a time.)

I like to collect and read and reread video guides like this:

Video Hound

and this: Psychotronic Video Guide

reading fantasy novels.

To some extent Cinema. I love to see well crafted movies.

I HAD to see Django Unchained while it was playing in the Cinema.

I felt the same about Prometheus. it was a Ridley Scott Alien movie.

I even felt that way about the reboot of Judge Dredd.

Certain films and directors just make me want to see the movie on the Big Screen. I really enjoy looking at it as a craft and seeing a crisp well lit image.

I also enjoy finding and tracking down good independent films.

The 60s, The Kinks. It's all about Swinging London, Carnaby Street and Routemasters!

Well, my mom always tells me that I'm "obsessed with being obsessed".

It means that I'm so troubled by my lack of a genuine obsession that my quest to find a new one dominates all of my thinking and free time. For me, looking for a new obsession involves trying out different things and hoping that the exposure to it will trigger an obsession (I usually try movies, books and TV shows, because virtually every single one of my past obsessions have revolved around things like that)

Sometimes when I tell people that I'm "looking for a new obsession", they get the wrong impression that I can choose what I become obsessed with. But if that were true, then why would I keep torturing myself over not having one? If it were up to me, I would have picked an obsession a long time ago. In fact, there are many things that I'd like to be obsessed with, but I can never get beyond just enjoying them on a general level.

My brother keeps telling me that I need to stop looking for a new obsession and just learn to enjoy things on a less intense level. He thinks that my mind has "matured" past the point of needing to obsess over things, and that I need to accept it. But I disagree with him. Starting from the age of 5, my mind has always needed to be obsessed with something, so why would that change all of a sudden? Major aspects of your personality don't just change like that!

I don't think that being mature makes a person less likely to have obsessions. I've read posts from very mature Aspies on here who have very strong obsessions.

Dogs, fantasy/sci-fi novels, philosophy, biology, videogames

My obsessions change. I've been obsessed with learning French and Finnish for over a month now. I have to do that every day for at least an hour.

I am still obsessed with mustelids and otters in particular but I'm running out of material to read.

My breast size, whether women are inferior to men, the fact that women are physically weaker and have more body fat than men, whether women are more emotional and dumber than men or not, the enneagram.
