Treating some of the bad traits of autism would help a person function better.
No one has ever found one cause of autism. Some scienitsts say it's genetic some say it is the envorinment. Also why are kids being researched on and not adults. I believe adults with autism can be treated. Just be it neurodevelopment disorder doesn't mean it cannot be helped.

What about unemployment because people with have a hard time with employment. Senory issues like loud noises. I think most would be better off being cured. Some people with autism would like to live a normal life. I think people autism have problems seeing other people views. I know most people with autism would liked to be cured and some them wouldn't. People AS are somethings socially blind because they miss read social cues and problems. Also people with AS anxitey problems like they worry about getting fired from a job. AS have problems with adopting to change but life is always changing. They also have depression, I mean people without AS have depression to. However, it seems That people with AS have it more than other people.

some people would be better off, some wouldnt-

that is when talking about a treatment, a cure is unrealistic in function since we are talking neurological development.

many people receive treatment to whatever extent they require to attain what they deem optimal functioning, it can take time getting there though.
thing is not even the best experts in the world can actually come up with something consistent that will work for everyone, medicine also has consequences, so for that reason many use coping stategies and various other means to function better.

this doesnt mean everyone can reach a level of function neccesaryu for a fully independent life and other can have such a life without treatment at all.

none of this is comparable to a cure and nothing we have is or will be for quite some time, still were it to exist anyone should have the option to take such a cure, people who dont shouldnt be shunned for not doing it, simple.

I don't want any help. I'm fine the way I am, whether or not I live in a world of my own. You can help yourself.

I think you've misunderstood what we are saying, OP. What you discribe is treatment/symptom-management, the act of eradicating some negative symptoms. What I stand against is a "cure", the act of completely removing a person's Autism.

As someone who has had much more experience of fellow Autistic people than many who post here, I can safety say that people on the spectrum are very different to Neurotypicals in many ways, not all of which are describable. Because of this, I am against the so-called "curing" of Autistic people, as it would fundementally change their identities. I don't yet have a solid opinion on the symptom-management you describe.

Treatment to alleviate symptoms imposes change. Therefor, your basic premise is simply wrong.

Which traits? What evidence?

Without determining the cause, 'treatments' will be hit-and-miss ... mostly 'miss'.

Belief is irrelevant and proves nothing.

Who says it needs to be 'helped'?

Are you a closet curebie?

See here is the funny thing about that.

Autistic people hate change. Pretty much a common thing.
So we aren't really gonna be all that into the idea that we should change our brain structure to please society.

I'm completely for alleviating the negative symptoms of autism. The thing is, if you manage to alleviate the negative symptoms enough, then you would no longer fit the criteria for autism, therefore, in a sense, you'd be "cured". So I am all for a cure. I don't want to eradicate anyone's personality, but it would be nice if we could get our problems alleviated.

My feelings exactly. I am happy and content to leave my autism the way it is.

Because desperate parents spend hundreds of thousands to treat kids. Autistic adults who can't hold down a job and have little money for treatment don't give pharmaceutical executives the hardon that autistic children do.

There is nothing wrong with wanting cure to be developed. This is a disorder and one that causes many problems. I for one support more funding for a cure, a cure that will help countless people. When I say cure I mean cure, one that would erase any autistic trait in a person. I don't support forcing people to take a cure though, it should be a choice. I just think one should be available.

I generally like myself except I'd give just about anything to have a normal social life.

They tried all sorts of meds on me, and all it did was make everything worse.
