Once I got past the couple of stereotypical traits (that I wish he hadn't stressed), and he got to the empathy portion, it was good.

Thanks for posting it. Too many people, even some on the spectrum, don't believe the part about empathy. That needs to change.

I agree.
Sometimes I am unaware of others' expressions, but once aware of their situations, I can be overwhelmed by them.

I'm not sure who you mean by "you guys."
I wouldn't describe empathy as being irritating. Maybe painful, sometimes. But I think it is a good thing.

I don't think that people really feel empathy. I think most people have a limited capacity for sympathy, which they only apply to people in their own circle.

Otherwise, they'd know that we have feelings.

I see empathy being the ability to imagine fairly realistically what its like to be in the other persons shoes. Call it a quality, skill or a curse, but it is real.

I was expecting the worst, but he did pretty good. After all the bad press we've been getting, it's great to see some actual truth.

I thought it was well-presented.
He explained the lack of social intuition well.

Gupta told the story of my younger days. I was the Boy Nerd even before there were Nerds. And I obsessed over details. My goodness, it is amazing that my parents did not strangle me just to shut me up.

I have always respected Dr.Gupta.When the awful event was unfolding he was on CNN several times trying to get the point across that Autistics are not dangerous.I think that his statements may have helped reassure people that their Autistic neighbor was not going to attack them in their front yard.
